Job Title: Master Security Guard

Department: Security

Reports To: Director of Security

FLSA Status: Exempt

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Director of Security, the Master Security Guard (MSG) is an individual who can operate in all facets of the Security Department at an optimum level of proficiency. The MSG maintains a safe and secure working environment for employees, guests/clients, volunteers and visitors.

Required Skills:

  • Must possess exceptional situational awareness skills.
  • Must be highly trained in the areas of officer safety techniques and overall tactics.
  • Must possess complete understanding of the Society’s “Use of Force Policy”.
  • Must be highly competent in the use of Security Department tools including, but not limited to Chemical Irritants (Pepper Spray), Collapsible Baton (ASP) and Taser defensive weaponry.
  • Possess exceptional verbal communication skills.
  • Must be highly skilled in the areas of Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) and de-escalation techniques.
  • Must be able to function at a high level of competence in all posts and assignments within the Security Department
  • Complete 90-day training program to achieve competence in all aspects of the Security Department.

Specific Duties:

  • Provide excellent customer service, living out the mission, vision, and cultural expectations of St. Vincent de Paul.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with staff, volunteers and guests always.
  • Enforce high standards of professional conduct that not only secure SVdP staff and guests but enhance our Feed, Clothe, House, Heal mission.
  • Instruct and/or assist in providing one on one/group training in person or via remote link.
  • Become familiar with Human Resource’s available tools and procedures.
  • Responsible for completing Incident reports in a timely and concise manner.

  • Assist all SVdP departments in creating and implementing safety plans, policies and procedures.
  • Actively seek out measures to protect the Society’s staff, volunteers, guests, property and staff.
  • Respond to emergencies as needed. Subject to various hours and days.
  • Attend staff meetings and safety related trainings as appropriate.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Security.
  • Participate in and serve as a model for SVdP’s Culture of Philanthropy, and ensure SVdP volunteers feel welcomed and appreciated *

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Understanding of nuances of working with upper management.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Desire to serve those in need and instill a culture of philanthropy.
  • Strong organizational, communication and computer skills are required.
  • Able to understand the scope of operations and each SVdP facility to identify potential security risks.

Education and Experience:

  • Five years of law enforcement and/or military experience is required. Or, ten years of high-level private sector security experience.
  • Possess professional certifications, education and/or equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to show current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or be able to complete EMT certification within the 90 day training period.
  • Experience in social services preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree is preferred

Physical Requirements:

Able to stand, walk, sit for extended periods of time (up to 8 hours a day), bend, reach and lift up to 30 pounds are required for this position
