Job Description
- Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data and decontamination, and update patient information.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
- Clearly and courteously explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collections as required.
- Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understand all physicians' orders.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Package specimens for transport.
- Store specimen samples according to required temperature and place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes.
- Accurately label specimens and follow procedures as outlined by specific protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity.
- Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attend annual department trainings.
- Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
- Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2-4 years of experience in a related field.
The work schedule is from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM. The position offers great benefits, bonuses, and room for growth in a supportive and innovative environment.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.00 - $20.00/hr.
