Job Description
Good News Home Inc. is a non-profit organization that provides short-term and long-term residential care and aftercare for up to 12 women at a time. We are offering an unpaid internship college credit opportunity for a student who wants to gain practical experience in accounting and finance. As an intern, you will be assisting the administrative staff with preparing journal entries and financial reports, analyzing financial data, learning bookkeeping software, and participating in other accounting activities. You should be a motivated team player who can maintain efficiency and accuracy when multitasking. This internship will provide a valuable opportunity for you to learn more about the business realities of administration and management in a non-profit organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Researching, filing, data entry, and maintaining accurate and complete financial records.
- Preparing financial reports, such as balance sheets and income statements, invoices, and other documents.
- Working with bookkeeping software such as QuickBooks.
- Handling sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity.
- Learning how to work as part of the Accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support the organization.
- Taking on additional tasks or projects to learn more about accounting and office operations.
- Pursuing or have already received an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- Students must have completed at least two years of an accounting program.
- Knowledge and understanding of general business matters required, including budget development, financial reporting, cash management, business taxes, banking and debt financing instruments.
- Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and standard business software systems.
- Knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong investigative/organizational skills are essential.
Desired Qualifications:
- Successfully completed Intermediate Accounting I & II.
