About the Controller's Office
The DPS Controller's Office ensures that all department financial resources and funds are received, disbursed, recorded, and accounted for in accordance with all applicable State and Federal laws and regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Department policy and procedures. The Controller's Office at the agency level has oversight responsibility of the North Carolina Accounting System (NCFS) in regards to transactions which affect the financial responsibility of the department and is accountable to the office of the State Controller for the integrity of that data.

The Accounting Technician II is responsible for maintaining accounting records of fixed assets. Specific duties include:
- Maintaining and verifying accounting records, documents and forms for accuracy and completeness of fixed assets, which includes Department transfers, disposition of fixed assets, junk and/or surplus property, correction of discrepancies of manufacturer, model numbers and/or serial numbers, deletion of temporary asset numbers, assignment of all fixed asset numbers, disposition of missing assets, and retirement of fixed assets.
- Verifying equipment invoices and processing for payment into the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS).
- Utilizing the state's E-Procurement system to resolve problems with field contacts and the Purchasing Department to process equipment and inside sales invoices.
- Generating reports pertaining to fixed assets for the entire Department, including the Annual Equipment Report for all of the Department locations.
- Monthly balancing asset additions against the General Ledger Expenses.
- Answering questions from departmental employees and vendors regarding fixed assets, statements, payments and/or credit on fixed assets.
