Job Description

As the Financial Accounting Manager, you will serve as the right-hand to our Corporate Controller. This is a critical role with responsibility for the day-to-day accounting operations, including partnering with accounts payable and accounts receivable, managing the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, and performing technical accounting research. You are a proactive self-starter with public accounting experience, strong technical skills, and a passion for building and improving processes.

Responsibilities

  1. Accounting Operations:
    • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statements.

    • Partner with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, ensuring timely and accurate processing of transactions.

    • Work with the Human Resources team to review and process payroll and provide accounting expertise when necessary.

    • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies as well as building them when necessary.

  2. Technical Accounting:

    • Research and analyze technical accounting issues and provide guidance to the accounting group.

    • Stay abreast of new accounting pronouncements and assess their impact on the company.

    • Work with third parties to develop and implement sales and use tax best practices.

    • Assist in the implementation of new accounting standards if necessary.

  3. Team Leadership & Mentorship:

    • Provide guidance and mentorship to the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

    • Identify training needs and develop programs to enhance the team's technical skills and knowledge of best practices.

  4. Process Improvement & Technology:

    • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate accounting processes.

    • Assist in the evaluation and implementation of new accounting software and technology.

    • Contribute to the development and documentation of accounting best practices.

  5. Special projects:

    • Support the Corporate Controller on ad hoc projects, such as financial analysis, updating chart of accounts, reviewing opening balance sheets, facilitating our annual audit, and other process improvement initiatives.

    • Play a key role in M&A accounting and due diligence as the company grows.

  6. Additional Responsibilities:

    • Handle additional responsibilities and projects as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.

  • CPA or actively pursuing CPA certification.

  • 3+ years of experience in public accounting, additional industry experience preferred.

  • Experience with accounting software systems, Acumatica preferred.

  • Experience with companies in the construction industry and knowledge of Work-in-Progress (WIP) accounting preferred.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive and proprietary information with discretion.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.

  • Team player attitude is a must.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency in financial software and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and taking initiative.
