Job Title: Consultant, Property Accounting (Project-Based)
Position Type: Full-Time, Project-Based (November – April)
Location: Newport Beach, CA
Onsite Requirements: Onsite, in-office 3 days a week

We are a leading real estate investment firm that manages private equity funds focused on acquiring and developing commercial industrial real estate. We are seeking an experienced Property Accountant to manage and oversee the accounting of multiple operating properties within our portfolio. This role will play a pivotal part in supervising and enhancing the effectiveness of our outsourced accounting functions, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
Position Overview:
The Property Accountant will be responsible for supervising, directing, and reviewing the work of our third-party outsourced accounting firm, focusing on a portfolio of operating assets. Reporting directly to the Supervising Senior Accountant, Property Accounting, this role requires a strong understanding of real estate accounting and expertise in Yardi. The Property Accountant will work closely with our Property Management department to streamline accounting processes and improve the monthly close efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Third-Party Oversight: Supervise, direct, and review the work of our outsourced accounting firm to ensure accuracy and compliance with company standards.
- Financial Review and Approval: Review and approve journal entries, invoices, and monthly financial reports to maintain accurate financial records.
-Loan Management: Preparing and submitting loan draws for properties, along with lender required reporting
- Monthly Close: Manage the monthly financial close process, aiming to close by the 10th business day.
- Process Optimization: Identify opportunities to accelerate the financial statement close process and improve the effectiveness and efficiency of third-party accounting functions.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Collaborate extensively with the Property Management team to ensure financial data aligns with operational activities.
- Yardi Utilization: Leverage Yardi for financial reporting, journal entries, and review processes, ensuring data integrity across systems.
Qualifications:
- Education and Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred but not required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in real estate accounting, with a strong preference for experience in commercial, industrial, or office real estate.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Yardi is required.
- Project Management: Demonstrated ability to manage a monthly close process independently, ensuring timely completion and accuracy.
- Analytical Skills: High attention to detail, strong analytical abilities, and problem-solving skills.
- Communication: Strong cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with external and internal stakeholders, particularly within Property Management.
This role is ideal for an accounting professional with a focus on process improvement and efficiency, ready to take ownership of a diverse portfolio and drive the timely, accurate reporting of operational assets.
