The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

We are looking for a critical thinker and analytical person to join the College of Dental Medicine's accounting team. As the Senior Manager for Accounting & Financial Controls, reporting to the school's CFO, you will be responsible for supporting management reporting, financial closing process, monthly reconciliations, and analyses of financial activities. You will also liaise across the school on accounting issues to ensure the integrity of the monthly financial statements as well as budget. You will support the daily operations of School Leadership by performing account reconciliations and analyses, identifying issues and understanding fluctuations in balances to help maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of financial reporting.

Responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Accounting and Financial Controls will be responsible for but not limited to:

  • Support the daily accounting operations of the school well as the monthly close, including preparation of closing schedules and variance analyses.
  • Prepare monthly financial statement analysis according to GAAP; analyze differences between actuals and budget and present findings and recommendations to the Executive team.
  • Prepare patient care revenue analysis by payor
  • Assist with our annual financial statement audit and cost report through direct interaction with external auditors throughout the audit process
  • Liaise with University central accounting team for preparation of annual 990 statement for Article 28 teaching clinic.
  • Provide analyses to identify issues and understand fluctuations in balances to help maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of the school's financial reporting.
  • Develops and implements internal controls to safeguard financial assets.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience plus four years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree MBA.
  • Minimum of 3 years of healthcare accounting.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience healthcare billing with Medicaid, Private Insurance and Managed Care providers is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Columbia University Accounting System (ARC)

Other Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in active status.
  • Have 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably including some public accounting experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel; experience with Peoplesoft or similar ERP system is a plus
  • Initiative-taking, meticulous, resourceful and problem-solving attitude
  • Excellent communication and people skills. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with minimal oversight to solve problems and to multi-task in a challenging environment.
  • Ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse group of senior administrators, peers, and faculty
