Job Summary
The Payroll and Accounting Specialist will join our growing team as it brings eFuels to market to help decarbonize the world. The ideal candidate is a tech-savvy payroll administrator, with a team-player mindset, seasoned by 7+ years of overseeing payroll and HR related compliance across multiple states for the manufacturing or construction industries. Directly reporting to the Controller, this candidate will have proven experience independently executing processes that result in timely, auditable payroll and accounting records.
The Payroll and Accounting Specialist will perform payroll and accounting functions supporting all areas of the business. The position will be in-office, in Sacramento, CA.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll and HR related tasks (50%)
- Lead bi-weekly payroll processing in accordance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations
- Work with payroll provider to ensure all monthly, quarterly, and yearly payroll tax returns process timely (Federal, multiple states)
- Register the company as an employer in new states, processing tax returns for those states manually, as necessary
- Collaborate with HR Manager and third party service providers to resolve payroll-related issues
- Stay up-to-date on relevant tax laws and compliance regulations to ensure accurate payroll processing
- Generate payroll reports and assist in audits as needed
- Create journal entries for payroll and accrued salaries and wages.
- Responsible for certified wage reporting in compliance with the Davis-Bacon Act
- Maintain confidentiality of all aspects of this position
Accounting tasks (50%)
- Assist the accounts payable team with processing and payment of non-standard invoices
- Record cash activity in a timely manner
- Reconcile bank accounts monthly
- Assist accounting team with various accounting tasks including reconciliations, month-end and administrative tasks as needed
Qualifications
- B.A./B.S. from an accredited university
- 7+ years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience managing payroll in multiple states
- Experience with enterprise-level, cloud-based accounting systems
- Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong accounting skills
- Team player, willing to grow and to take on new tasks as the company grows
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism

Salary Range
$70,000 - $85,000, DOE
