OHIO SOCIETY OF ASSOCIATION PROFESSIONALS 01/16/2024 Executive Director Ohio Physical Therapy Association| Westerville, OH Position Summary: The Ohio Physical Therapy Association (OPTA) is currently seeking a forward-thinking and team-oriented executive director who has the vision to lead our organization through the advancement of our strategic drivers: Make membership personal. Innovate the stakeholder experience. Promote and advance the sustainability of the profession. The executive director is responsible for the overall management and direction of the association, including the supervision of highly talented and results-oriented full-time employees and several contracted professionals who serve the organization. Demonstrating a growth mindset, the ideal candidate will have the ability to creatively advance the directives of a fiscally sound organization through multiple channels: board initiatives, committee recommendations, new foundation activities, and staff enterprises. Founded in 1951, OPTA is a nonprofit professional organization representing licensed physical therapists, licensed physical therapist assistants, and students enrolled in physical therapy and physical therapist assistant programs in Ohio. OPTA represents approximately 4,000 physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, and students of physical therapy in Ohio. This organization is a chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association, a national professional organization representing 100,000+ members. Responsibilities: Leadership & Management You will keep the president, executive committee, board of directors, and staff fully informed on the condition of the association and all issues influencing the leadership and its members. You will execute all contracts and commitments authorized by the association. You will actively engage and energize membership, board members, committees, and partnering organizations in successfully implementing the strategic plan and mission of the OPTA. You will develop and maintain strong relationships with health-related professional organizations and stakeholders. You will assist the board in developing a strategic plan and provide recommendations to assist achievement of strategic goals. You will provide direction to the lobbyists in addressing pending or future legislative issues impacting PT in Ohio. Legislative & Regulatory You will serve as registered lobbyist for the association and oversee the legislative agenda in conjunction with the OPTA State Affairs Committee and registered lobbyist. You will attend legislative committee hearings, Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers (OTPTAT) and stakeholder meetings to provide a voice for the physical therapy profession. You will provide legislative testimony when needed to advance association goals. You will collaborate with the payment policy specialist to deliver information and solutions for member inquiries. You will serve as point of contact for regulatory agencies, such as the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. You will manage OneClick Politics software to enhance grassroots advocacy efforts. Operational You will recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate the association staff, both full-time and contract, with full responsibility for pay rate, promotion, and termination. You will review and determine annual benefits contracts for association healthcare plans. You will oversee the continuation education (CE) portal process to grow association non-dues revenue. You will work with the accountant in preparing and analyzing internal financial statements, depreciation schedules, authorizing payroll, and signing company tax returns. You will ensure the association is in full compliance with all local, state, and federal rules governing corporate and program activities. You will execute and maintain a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the OTPTAT Licensure Board. You will oversee all financial operations including purchases, payments, and submitted expense reports. In conjunction with the treasurer, you will prepare and submit an annual operating budget in excess of $750,000 for Board approval. You will work with an outside accounting firm in overseeing all financial management responsibilities including bill payment, depositing money, preparing and analyzing internal financial statements, authorizing payroll, and signing company tax returns. You will provide fiscal management within the approved annual budget with periodic reports on progress and discrepancies. Ohio Physical Therapy Enrichment Foundation You will manage day-to-day operations of the foundation and allocate staff time as needed. You will ensure all activities are performed in accordance with applicable laws governing foundations. You will develop budget and oversee prudent financial management of foundation funds. You will identify and execute development strategies to grow foundation resources. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in business/nonprofit management or a similarly relevant field Certified Association Executive (CAE) designation or advanced degree preferred 5+ years executive leadership experience in a non-profit environment Strong verbal and written communication skills Experience with lobbying/advocacy, and able to deliver quantifiable evaluation of legislative effectiveness High standard of ethics, evidenced by previous roles of increasing responsibility Able to serve as a positive brand representative in multiple capacities Ability to self-balance multiple priorities and delegate as necessary Creative and “big picture” thinker, able to create/revise a strategic vision and execute that vision with measurable and attainable goals/objectives General knowledge of healthcare is desirable Grant writing experience preferred. Location: The OPTA is located in beautiful Westerville, OH.
