General Description: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor to join our Training & Development team. This role involves providing technical, heavy equipment operator training to inexperienced/limited experience employees; as well as facilitating equipment operator candidate assessments. The ideal candidate will have strong facilitation and teaching skills, along with a thorough understanding of adult learning principles. Essential Responsibilities and Duties Conduct hands-on practical training sessions using equipment simulators and actual heavy equipment; as well as various construction support tools. Assist in the Development and Deliver heavy equipment operator basic operations. Facilitate trainee assessments to measure and determine appropriate learning interventions. Monitor and evaluate trainee performance during practical training sessions. Provide constructive feedback and additional support to trainees as needed. Develop and maintain training schedules, coordinating with various departments and operations. Communicate training schedules and reminders, as well as manager exception reports. Oversee and prepare reports on the utilization of Blythe Training Academy resources. Employ active learning, active listening, critical thinking, and learning strategies to enhance training. Facilitate comprehensive training sessions for new hires and provide on-the-job training support. Facilitate upskill training sessions for existing employees. Maintain and share documentation and records of training activities. Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, incorporating new insights into training programs. Skills/Attributes/Knowledge Exceptional verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information to a diverse audience. Basic Computer Skills. Skilled at driving engagement and motivating people to achieve organizational objectives. Aptitude for mechanical concepts and practical application in a training environment. Strong facilitation and teaching skills Experienced with adult education/learning principles. Strong organizational skills with the ability to develop and maintain training schedules. Proficient in creating and/or utilizing assessments to measure training effectiveness. Education and Experience . This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Extensive experience and knowledge of heavy equipment operation, including but not limited to: Excavators, Backhoes, Off Road Trucks, Bulldozers, Front End Loaders, Motorgraders. Preference for experience in highway/roadway construction experience. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Physical Demands . The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Heavy Equipment Operator Instructor, to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Routinely work a shift of 8 hours/per day; 5 days per week. Occasionally, required to stoop, bend and walk. Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull various materials/gear up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to utilize hands and feet, to manipulate various equipment controls, including steering wheels, joysticks, leavers, foot pads, etc. Ability to access stairs/vertical ladders, using 3 points of contact, to access equipment operating controls. Continuous mental attention required to complete tasks in an efficient manner. Potential limited exposure to dust, dirt grease and noise; ability to wear personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hardhat. Frequently walk and/or stand, for periods of time, on various ground conditions, including sand, gravel, pavement and dirt. Must be able to communicate and understand both orally and written/typed. Work Environment . The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that this position, may encounter: Work is performed 75% of the time in outdoor weather conditions and 25% an in-door classroom training environment. Frequent exposure to various outdoor weather conditions. Work environment may periodically expose individual to various levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction site; either engineering controls and/or personal protective equipment may be required, to ensure exposure limit does not exceed OSHA specifications.
