PRIMARY FUNCTION

The Equipment Operator is primarily responsible for the operation of fabricating machines; may also be responsible for moving materials to and from warehouse storage; and packing materials for shipping.

TYPICAL DUTIES
  • Actively support the Company's commitment to safety and its "Core Values".
  • Represent the Company at all times with high moral standards while adhering to the Company's "Code of Business Conduct and Ethics".
  • Operates Fabrication Shop machinery and equipment that cut, shape, and bend metal plates, sheets, tubes, and structures.
  • Reads job specifications to determine machine adjustments and material requirements.
  • Positions workpiece against stops or aligns layout marks with die or blade. Sets, stops, or guides to specified length as indicated by scale, rule or template. Pushes button or depresses pedal to activate machine.
  • Observes machine operation to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunction. Measures workpiece dimensions to determine accuracy of machine operation. Removes burrs, sharp edges, rust, or scale from workpiece.
  • Pulls scheduled materials from warehouse storage as required for production operations and shipping.
  • Load/unload truck and deliver materials to production areas.
  • Palletize materials for production and for expeditor pick up.
  • Package materials for shipping.
  • Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition.
  • Follows prescribed safety standards and regulations.
  • Performs minor machine maintenance such as oiling machines, dies, or workpieces, as required.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required in performance of job.
  • Employee may be required to perform additional duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, and EXPERIENCE
  • Prior related experience and/or training in a fabrication or machine shop environment.
  • Ability to operate tools and equipment applicable to position.
  • Working knowledge of basic hand tools.
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings, use simple math, and use basic handheld measuring tools.
  • Certification and ability to operate Forklift.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Must possess a valid commercial driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Moderate computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and database applications.
  • Ability to interact and communicate well with others in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be willing to work frequent overtime.
  • Must be able and willing to work at elevated heights from ladders, scaffolding, aerial work platforms, etc.
  • Work may include pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds, such as raw or fabricated material, equipment or tools.
  • Work may include frequent bending, kneeling, crouching and stooping and occasional climbing onto equipment.
  • Work involves standing and/or walking for extended periods of time, up to a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  • The essential job functions and duties outlined in this position are considered safety sensitive.
  • Obtain and maintain an active status within the drug testing program.

California law requires pay information in job postings. The typical hiring range for this position in California is shown below. The pay rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior experience, specific skill set, geographic location, internal equity, and other factors influencing pay. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of this range, and in certain circumstances, may fall outside the listed hiring range.

Hiring range: $21.50 to $27.00 per hour
