Availability: Overnight Camp and training runs between July 7-August 15. Unit Leads are required to live on site during camp training and sessions-all meals, snacks, and lodging are provided during those times. Camp staff receive time off on the weekends and breaks throughout the week.

Location: Overnight camp is located at Camp Casey in Coupeville, WA on Whidbey Island.

Salary: $225/day

Position Summary:

YMCA Overnight Camps provide youth the opportunity to learn new skills, gain an appreciation for the outdoors, while experiencing achievement, relationships, and belonging. Unit Leads supports and oversees one of our age group units in an overnight camp setting, and ensure a quality experience to children and parents focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Supports unit staff by observing, coaching, providing feedback, evaluating, and assisting with problem solving.
  • Supports and assists with unit campers who need additional support
  • Plans and facilitates unit activities that are developmentally appropriate and meet camp goals.
  • Assists with the organization and facilitation of all camp events
  • Provides leadership and supervision to any LIT or CIT campers within the unit
  • Assists in maintaining all programs areas in a safe and orderly condition
  • Participates and leads specific areas of staff training
  • Assists in keeping all program equipment and areas in safe working condition
  • Unit Leads step into a cabin counselor role when needed and provide other general camp support such as supporting activities, working with groups of campers, camp organizations and preparation for future sessions.
  • Be a positive role model to children and staff in your attitude and actions
  • Interact and engage with children in an age and developmentally appropriate manner, and use positive behavior guidance techniques
  • Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies
  • Maintain positive relations with parents and other staff
  • Provide parents appropriate feedback and information as needed for their children to have a successful camp experience
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Minimum age 18
  • Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc.
  • Fluency in second language desired
