Job Summary:
To coordinate, organize and supervise all production process methods and engineering activities that enable production. This includes sustaining engineering, new product launch processes and continuous improvement activities. The position is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining all production processes to drive quality and efficiency and to develop manufacturing plans which improve operations competitiveness.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize and implement systems and procedures that will enhance manufacturing production while adhering to and promoting safety and quality guidelines
- Conduct, or oversee, studies to determine cause and effect, including corrective measures needed to remedy deviations impairing desired standards of quality
- Assess production processes looking for improvement opportunities, such as improving product consistency, standardizing work procedures, enhancing flow, etc.
- Implement Lean concepts throughout the plant including 5S, Visual Work, Kanban, etc.
- Partner with the Design Engineering groups to ensure that all aspects of new product introduction and changes to existing products are properly communicated to stakeholders
- Project Management of capital equipment projects: identify equipment improvements, ensure on time delivery and within budget
- Ensure all equipment meets OSHA compliant safety regulations
- Assumes responsibility for plant and site layout
- Drives engineering principals and discipline through mentoring, training and project reviews
- Improves shop floor productivity and drives controllable spending reduction
- Develops and implements recommendations for improving Efficiency and Profitability of plant
- Manages machine, gauging, tooling and equipment procurement process including quoting, supplier selection, machine specification, run-off, installation, training and launch
- Manages, develops and improves all manufacturing standards including machine capability, process maps, set-ups, quality control, tooling and fixture records, routings and cycle times.
- Coach supervisors and leads on lean tool theory and application along with shop floor performance management
Competencies:
- 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing engineering environment
- Ability to quickly assess manufacturing issues related to design and tolerancing
- Working knowledge of computers, including MS Word, Excel, AutoCad, ProE, with preferred experience in Inventor or Solidworks
- Understanding of factory metrics and Lean (Operational Excellence) at a minimum with Six Sigma experience a plus
- Awareness and understanding of company quality standards, capital equipment, procurement, FMEA, APQP, ISO 14001
- Understanding of MIG/TIG/SAW/SMAW welding practices preferred
- Knowledge of basic design and manufacturing datum development and its effect in manufacturing process
- Welding knowledge/experience and ASME codes and standards preferred
- Ability to utilize engineering principals to develop robust manufacturing processes
- Fluent knowledge of Manufacturing Engineering and quality control
Education:
- · BS degree in Engineering, preferably Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical
Travel:
- Able and willing to travel as necessary
