JOB TITLE:  Dialysis Registered Nurse/LVN


JOB TYPE:  Full time. Must be able to work   4-5 days a week at least 3 patients a day with flexibility to work overtime as needed


LOCATION:  Acute care hospitals   and sub-acute facilities that have contracted with the agency

POSITION SUMMARY:


This individual provides professional nursing care to patients needing  Dialysis services in the acute hospitals and sub-acute facilities that have contracted with the agency. 


 


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES SPECIFICATIONS:


The RN must be cognizant, that at all times the contracted facility/hospital and patient’s physician retain ultimate authority over and responsibility for each patient’s care and treatment.


Plans and provides patient care for the pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients in the hospital in accordance with the physician orders, agency’s policy and procedures as well as hospital policy and procedures.


Provides quality direct patient care and renal replacement therapies independently, in a professional, considerate, and respectful manner.


Supervises and directs patient care of other teammates in the treatment area that may or may not be licensed.


Interacts and communicates with hospital partners in a collaborative, respectful manner, gives pre/post-treatment report through appropriate reporting process to hospital primary RN/Staff


Documents patient’s physical assessment, vital signs, treatment reviews and observation inpatient medical records and brings issues to the attention of the physician and primary nurse


Documents evaluate and implement dialysis orders.


Analyzes patient assessment, dialysis orders, laboratory results and, discusses issues with the nephrologist


Communicates emergencies, patient life-threatening complications, and related incidents to supervisor, hospital staff, and patient’s physician.


Provides initiation and discontinuation of the prescribed renal replacement therapy, including but not limited to formulating a plan per physician orders, verifying safety and measures are in place and complied with, administering medications or other appropriate treatments, and documenting all activity appropriately on the agency’s approved forms and documentation tool.


Demonstrates the ability to transfer skill set and work on other Hospital settings when required


Attends hospital orientation, homeroom meetings, and mandatory in-services as required


Verifies accurate charges and documentation are submitted in a timely manner


Demonstrates the ability to learn and perform modalities (hemodialysis, PD, CRRT, Apheresis)


 


EDUCATIONAL/LICENSURE:


Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state where practicing


Associates Degree in Nursing (A.D.N.) from the accredited school of nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N); three-year diploma from the accredited diploma program may be substituted for nursing degree


Hemodialysis nursing experience in an acute or chronic setting


Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN), Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) and/or Certified Hemodialysis Nurse (CHN), preferred


 


 


EXPERIENCE:


At least 1 year RN experience; medical/surgical (Med/Surg), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Critical Care Unit (CCU), and/or emergency room (ER)


 


 


KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ESSENTIAL:


Willingness to work mandatory overtime required due to the nature of the acute treatment you are providing, with the little or no notice


Flexibility to travel to multiple hospitals within a given area


Experience assessing, troubleshooting and making sound recommendations in the stressful situations


Physical Requirement: nurses often have to push/pull large hemodialysis machines around the hospital with little or no assistance.
