The individual in this position will be required to fully understand the purpose and operation of Occupational Health and Safety and Infection Control along with having the ability to make decisions based on sound judgment when a situation dictates. This position performs comprehensive employee and occupational health services for all Samaritan Healthcare locations including ensuring compliance with regulatory/legal standards, implementing and administering employee safety and wellness programs, providing employee health education and guidance and establishing and maintaining records and systems to support the employee health programs.
This position requires confidentiality of personnel records, reports, and matters sensitive to the Human Resources Department. The individual in this position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer.
This is an exempt full-time position, working Monday through Friday from 6:00am - 2:30pm. This position works out of the Professional Center Building.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES (not limited to):
- Records and maintains all pertinent health data on employees. Notifies employees when activity is required (fit testing, immunizations, titers, etc.) Ensures activities are completed in timely manner, notifies department leader when past due.
- Provides immunizations for staff.
- Orders and maintains an adequate supply of all necessities for the service.
- Provides information relative to updating health and safety procedures, policies, and orders as requested.
- Monitors data for reporting to state and federal agencies for workers compensation injuries
- Completes OSHA 300A annually for all Samaritan Locations
- Follows up on incidents of employee injuries and exposures. Makes recommendations to prevent future occurrences. Follows up on test reports from staff and provides counseling as needed.
- Under the direction of the CHRO, implements strategies to maximize employee productivity and overall health and safety to reduce disability claims, on-the-job injury claims, and absenteeism. Collaborates with others to develop a return to work program for employee injuries.
- Provides support to Human Resources regarding ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) discussions and makes recommendations.
- Serves as a resource to management, staff and providers with regard to employee health and safety issues.
- Ensures no injuries to self or others by following safe work practices and policies. This includes, but is not limited to security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
- Oversight for the Employee Safety Committee.
- Oversight for Samaritan Employee Wellness program.
- Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required by management, be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (not limited to):
- Associate Degree in Nursing required.
- Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, Master’s degree preferred.
- Registered Nurse in the state of Washington, required.
- Three years of experience in Employee Health preferred.
- Certified Occupation Health Nurse Specialist (COHN-S) preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Occasional standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
- Good eyesight. Can distinguish colors.
- Manual dexterity and mobility.
- Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
- Required Protective Equipment: Non-sterile and sterile medical gloves, mask, gown or apron, eye/face protection or personal respirator, as necessary, per standard precautions as individual situations would require.
