Job Description
Full Time

Charge nurses at HCH cover both the Emergency Department and Medical/Surgical nursing. The CN position is a leader, but not a formal supervisor. The daily workload usually involves oversight and management of all ED patients, including a lighter med/surg assignment. The ED nurse oversees daily operations on the shift and sets up staffing for the next shift, adjusting resources as census and staffing change. CNs generally have one meeting per month, as well as participation in extra duties specific to the charge role - special projects, quality initiatives, etc. CNs help guide and support the team to ensure our high standards and patient experience are maintained. The CN team reports to the ED & Med/Surg Managers, and works closely with the DON. CNs take patients on each shift, as well as additional responsibilities.
