The Flagler Museum is currently hiring experienced fine-dining restaurant staff for the 2024-2025 winter season. Become part of the service team and enjoy a breathtaking work setting, exceptional reimbursement, and agreeable hours, located on idyllic Palm Beach Island. Whitehall is a National Historic Landmark, and open to the public as The Flagler Museum, offering self-guided tours, changing exhibitions, and special learning programs.
Our Railcar 91 Tea Room hosts a formal afternoon tea service, inside the iconic Flagler-Kenan Pavilion. The prix-fixe pre-set menu includes a selection of savory tea sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and traditional sweets, all complemented by the Museums signature Tea and pink lemonade.
We are open six days a week. The hours are 8:30-5pm. No evenings. Every guest pre-pays an 18% automatic gratuity. Tips are then pooled and distributed via bi-monthly paychecks. There is no alcohol service. Training begins early October. Our Tea Service season starts Thanksgiving Weekend and continues through Mother's Day.
The Kitchen Prep position is a professional, high volume, fast-paced, team-oriented kitchen position. Prep prepares and assembles tea sandwiches, baked goods, and desserts in a timely, consistent fashion. Follows established recipes, tea tray set up, and garnish placement to the exact degree and has an attention to final details. Prep has an agreeable can-do attitude, especially when under pressure. Attention to safety and knowledge of basic knife skills, with an understanding of basic kitchen equipment usage. This individual is comfortable in a kitchen setting, and sets up a station with limited supervision at a high level of expertise. After service time, responsibilities include dishes, daily afternoon cleaning checklist, monthly cleaning checklist, and seasonal cleaning duties. Takes negative customer feedback in a non-defensive manner. Ensures impeccable standards of kitchen cleanliness and food safe food handling as outlined in food protection guidelines. Maintains a methodically organized work station and possesses an openness and willingness to learn. Culinary education would be a huge asset.
Proven experience as prep cook/ sandwich maker preferred
Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a kitchen
Food Safe certification or willingness to be certified.
A team player with excellent communication skills
Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure
Ability to stand for up to eight hours, eight hour shift
The Flagler Museum is a drug-free workplace. Candidates are required to participate in a mandatory background check and drug screening.
