The Title:
Ingredient Prep. Dept. Supervisor
The Role:
Ingredient Preparation Department Supervisor is responsible for effectively leading and working with their team to follow daily work instructions. The Ingredient Prep Department prepares and delivers ingredients for the batching department. Team members handle food ingredients, follow recipes, document traceability, operate washing, chopping, pumping, and mixing equipment, whilst following food quality and safety standards to ensure the safe and timely production of healthy food. You will demonstrate and emphasize high quality and food safety standards, training team members as required. You will also coordinate with team members and departments to ensure timely and efficient production. In short, you will be responsible for your entire department, the team functions, and all departmental documentation. You will serve as a positive example for your entire team and report directly to the Production Manager.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead the setup of the Ingredient Prep. and Batching areas and assemble equipment
- Actively coordinate with warehouse operations to ensure timely and accurate delivery of raw materials to the production floor
- Oversee the preparation of raw materials for processing, including de-casing, inspecting, washing, size reducing and portioning. Demonstrate proficiency and train others.
- Coordinate preparation, ensure proper labeling, and stage raw materials for downstream processes
- Safely operate basic and complex process equipment including wash tanks, product conveyors, drum/tote unloaders, size reduction equipment, pumps, buggy dumpers and mixing systems and train others.
- Lead general sanitation activities, including breakdown of various packaging stations, following product changeovers and at the end of the production shift
- Effectively lead team and departmental operations to ensure timely and efficient production.
- Prepare and review documentation (written or digital) as required for food safety, quality, and production tracking activities. Train others on best practices.
- Adhere to and demonstrate to team members all safety guidelines (both personnel and food safety-related) and Good Manufacturing Practices.
- Identify and promptly report product, processing, documentation, and employee performance issues to the management team.
- Report potentially unsafe working or equipment conditions and work with the management team to correct deficiencies.
- Embrace continuous improvement.

- Effectively communicate goals, priorities, and action items to direct reports; actively give feedback on progress updates

The Qualifications:
- 4-5 years food processing experience, including 3-4 years' operating food processing equipment.
- 3-4 years' experience leading teams and operations.
- You must be able to begin work between 5am Monday Through Thursday and you must be able to work up to 11 hours per day. We target 4 days and 40 hours. You must also be able to work at least one Sunday through Wednesday shift per month.
- If you would prefer to work Sunday through Wednesday, we may accommodate that.
- You must demonstrate proper clock management and maintain a strong attendance.
- You must be able to read and follow ingredient preparation instructions and procedures to ensure the ingredients are properly prepped and made correctly.
- You must maintain close concentration and visual attention to assigned tasks.
- You must be willing and able to follow instructions.
- You must have competent English verbal and written language skills.
- You must have competent math skills.
- You must be willing and able to work efficiently and with alacrity.
- You must be competent with smart phones, tablets, and email.
- You must maintain a respectful workplace by ensuring effective communication among all team members within the department and with other departments.
- You must help foster collaboration.
- You must set a positive example for all team members.
- You must understand and support the company goals and hierarchy.
Physical Requirements:
- Physical dexterity, ability to lift up to 45 lbs. and push/pull rolling bowls, carts, and containers with up to 550 lbs of product.
- The ability to work in varied environmental conditions (dry, cold)
- The ability to stand for 8 to 10 hours per day, up to 3 hours at a time
- Must be able to identify, assess and observe detail
- Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively.
- Ability to squat, kneel, bend and twist
- Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
