The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling 835 students in grades Pre-K through 12. Position Description: The Shipley School is looking for ASSISTANT COACHES for ALL SPORTS for ALL SEASONS. An Assistant Coach is integral to the development of our student-athletes as they strive towards achieving their full potential and a continued love for the sport. In this role, an assistant coach will support the Head Coach in organizing and executing practice and game plans. In some instances, our assistant coaches may have opportunities to lead off-season training programs and camps.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Follows and upholds policies and mission statement of The Shipley School
  • Contribute to the planning practice sessions and competitions
  • Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for development and athletic achievement in the sport
  • Travel to and from off-site locations (practice or contests) with student-athlete
  • Recruit student-athletes of all ages for application to Shipley
  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship and maintain appropriate conduct towards the student-athletes, opposing team, officials, spectators, etc.
  • Ensure a positive environment free of hazing, harassment, bullying and intimidating language and behaviors - aligned with our Community Commitment.

Qualifications:

  • Prior coaching experience in the sport, experience as a competitor is preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of the rules and regulations of the sport at the high school level
  • Prior experience working in an educational setting is preferred, but not required
  • Ability to foster a positive team spirit as well as individual skill improvement
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule that includes some nights and weekends
  • Ability to be outside for prolonged periods of time in a variety of weather conditions
  • First Aid and CPR training - or have the ability to be trained
  • Ability to drive a 9 passenger van
