Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The Equipment Shop Technician III will be responsible for performing work involving the diagnosis and repair of malfunction, as well as preventative maintenance tasks, for diesel engines and construction equipment in addition to hydraulic and electrical systems. Experience with mechanics on heavy equipment or diesel applications. A minimum of five years of experience is required.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Inspect diesel engine and equipment hydraulic and electrical systems to determine the need for repair or replacement of parts.
- Operate vehicles and heavy equipment to aid in the diagnostic and repair process.
- Repair or adjust parts that do not work properly and replace parts that cannot be fixed.
- Dismantle, reassemble, test, clean, and adjust repaired or replaced parts or assemblies to ensure they are in proper working order.
- Perform diagnostic process, troubleshoot, and repair to ensure equipment is safe for operation.
- Inspect, clean, and lubricate all moving parts, as necessary.
- Inspect all systems of equipment or diesel engines and perform preventative maintenance to ensure safe conditions for operation.
- Utilize a wide range of hand and power tools as well as precision measuring instruments, and hydraulic and electrical testing devices.
- Utilize code and reference books as well as computer diagnostic equipment to aid in diagnosis and troubleshooting.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- On-the-job training.
- Welding with electric and gas welders and soldering tools is a plus.
- Certifications are a plus.
- Ability to travel and work in the field
OTHER:
- Requires a CDL Class B License; on-the-job training provided to obtain.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:
- Ability to be productive by working efficiently and effectively with a high energy level.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Must have own tools.
- Work with precision testing devices, hoists, and a wide range of hand and power tools.
- Read and understand equipment repair manuals, and schematics.
- Work within standards of accuracy.
- Evaluate information using measurable standards and specifications.
- Apply knowledge of mathematics, mechanics, electricity, equipment and tool operation, and other skills as necessary.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, noxious odors, gases, mechanical and electrical hazards, moving objects, sharp edges, and all types of weather and temperature conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Manual dexterity, sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods;
- Frequent climbing stairs/ladders, bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, reaching, and crouching;
- Occasional work on ladders, scaffolding, or high structures;
- Visual acuity to read printed and electronic documents;
- Hearing capacity to receive, perceive, and react to common construction environment auditory stimuli;
- Lifting and/or exerting force up to 50 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds of lifting/force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of lifting/force constantly to move objects; and
- Frequent driving of mobile equipment.
