Description

Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled manual duties in the Public Works Department OR Parks Services Department. Assist other personnel in the performance of job duties. Supervises individuals in special work programs. Personnel may be assigned to work weekends and/or shift work.

Illustrative Duties:

• Assists in maintaining public buildings and grounds; performs various unskilled tasks (e.g., cleans offices and restrooms, sweeps, rakes leaves, waters plants, mows grass, clears brush, shovels snow, spreads salt, etc.)
• Collects residential and public solid waste containers and disposes contents into collection truck; removes leaves from curbside and picks up debris; deposits leaves and debris in the collection truck.
• Performs a variety of unskilled labor tasks to assist with departmental operations (e.g., runs errands, moves furniture, cleans and maintains equipment, picks up and delivers materials and supplies, carries tools, assists maintenance workers in painting, roofing, light carpentry, plant trees, shrubs, other vegetation, operate a chain saw, chipper, vacuum machine, lawn tractor, bush hog/bucket tractor, power lift, dump truck, etc.).
• Performs general work in support of Special Events, including, but not limited to, installing road barricades, setting posts, covering fields, placing athletic equipment, and assisting in marking fields.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED equivalent and prefer one (1) year experience as a general laborer and/or combination of training and experience which evidences a basic knowledge of building and grounds maintenance, solid waste collection, and/or custodial techniques. Must have a valid Kentucky driver's license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to perform heavy repetitive manual labor for extended periods. Ability to tolerate various temperatures and climates. Ability to operate internal radio system. Must maintain the physical requirements to successfully pass the Essential Job Function test as required for the position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :

Knowledge of laborer policies and procedures; ground maintenance methods; methods used in the collection of solid waste and techniques; safety practices and procedures utilized in janitorial services; basic work ethics. Ability to perform heavy repetitive manual labor for extended periods; follow general oral and written instructions; maintain effective working relationships and handle simple public contacts. Skill in the operation and utilization of hand tools and motorized equipment. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Ability to maintain safe practices in the execution of duties.

Salary Description

$17.18 - $21.47 Hourly, $35,734 - $44,657 Annually
