The department of Facilities Management intends to hire for one position at either the Electrician I, Electrician II, or Electrician III classification based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The University of Iowa is seeking an Electrician to join the Facilities Management Department. Under supervision, this role performs electrical maintenance and installation services required in their assigned area.
This position is performed fully on campus.
Duties to Include:
- Read and interpret drawings, job tickets and plan jobs accordingly and requisition the proper quantities of materials.
- Troubleshoot inoperative equipment.
- Install and repair lighting devices.
- Install electric motors and motor control devices.
- Install conduit and other types of wire
- Pull electrical conductors and connect in proper order
Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 500 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards of our beautiful Iowa City and Oakdale campus. FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design & construction, and maintain & clean the buildings & grounds.
Schedule Monday through Friday,08:00 AM to 4:30 PM overtime as required

Starting pay rate for the three classification levels:
- Electrician I: $46,238.41
- Electrician II: $50,502.40
- Electrician III: $55,140.80
Electrician I Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Requires State of Iowa Class A or B Journeyman Electrician license.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and meet University's Fleet Safety Program.
- Experience troubleshooting and installing systems ranging from 24 volts to 120 volts.
- Good communication skills and experience working on a team.
- Prefer basic computer experience.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Prefer computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- State of Iowa Class A Journeyman Electrician license with at least four years as an apprentice plus two years of experience as a journeyman electrician; or
- State of Iowa Class B Journeyman Electrician license with eight years in the electrical trade in maintenance or construction.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and meet University's Fleet Safety Program.
- Experience troubleshooting and installing systems ranging from 24 volts to 480 volts.
- Experience with lighting controls.
- Experience with Variable Frequency Drives and motor controls.
- Good communication skills and experience working on a team.
- Prefer basic computer experience.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Prefer computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Requires a State of Iowa Class A Master Electrician license with four years as an apprentice plus four years of experience as a journeyman electrician; or
- State of Iowa Class B Master Electrician license with ten years in the electrical trade in maintenance or construction.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and meet University's Fleet Safety Program.
- Experience with building automation controls.
- Experience with advanced electrical metering. (megger, power loggers, rotation meters).
- Good communication skills and experience working on a team.
- Prefer basic computer experience.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
- Prefer computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
