Psychiatrist Adult and TAY Mental Health Programs Agency Overview Felton Institute responds to the needs of our community by providing innovative, evidence-informed social services that transform lives. Our organization offers 50 programs that address mental health, the unhoused, early care and education, those impacted by the justice system, transitional age youth, as well as aging adults. Program Description The Adult ICM (intensive case management), Adult FSP (full service partnership), TAY (transitional age youth) FSP, DCCS (Deaf Community Counseling Services), and TAY Acute Linkage programs provide intensive case management services for severely mentally ill individuals, enabling them to live in the community and to maintain the greatest possible independence, stability, and level of functioning. The programs serve adults living with serious mental illnesses by providing an intensive array of recovery-oriented services and supports, including housing and basic needs assistance, benefits assistance, employment services, and integrated mental health and substance abuse treatment services. We also assist seriously mentally ill young (18-25) people in becoming independent and productive members of the community. The TAY FSP and TAY Acute Linkage programs provide mental health and substance abuse treatment, housing assistance, and vocational and educational support to youth transitioning out of psychiatric emergency services, inpatient hospitalization, foster care, juvenile justice, or homelessness. Job Description Under the administrative supervision of the Director of TAY and Adult Mental Health Services, provide the following services to clients ranging in age from 18-65 years, all of whom have psychiatric disabilities and/or co-occurring mental health and substance abuse concerns: performing psychiatric evaluations, prescribing and managing psychiatric medications, assisting in the direction of treatment planning within a multi-disciplinary treatment team, and providing oversight and supervision to full-time staff Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Nurses. Works closely with Felton's senior leadership team to implement strategies that enhance client care and improve our medical & psychiatric practice. General Adult residency-trained psychiatrists will see clients 18 years and older. Child and adolescent fellowship-trained psychiatrists will see clients who are under 18 years old. Program Specific Responsibilities Exercises psychiatric responsibilities for psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and monitoring of clients. Orders diagnostic tests as needed Provides supervision and support to Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and Nurses Supervises, and is party to the practice agreement with, Nurse Practitioner(s) and/or physician assistant(s). Completes performance reviews and signs their timesheet(s). Completes evaluations for conservatorship, disability applications, and performs involuntary hospitalizations, as needed Schedules one's own appointments and cross-covers nursing medication distribution duties when needed Provides cross-coverage for other Felton psychiatrists when they are away Coordinates treatment planning with counselors and case managers as needed Coordinates medical issues with Primary Health Care providers Maintains clinical records in accordance with mandated standards Consults and provides on-going education to non-medical staff in psychopharmacology and medical aspects of patient care Performs crisis interventions, supportive counseling and other direct mental health services, including case management, as needed Works directly with providers to educate them on our care process and determine what can be done to improve overall care quality Acts as the medical expert in dealings with vendors and non-medical facilities that work within the organization Creates work groups and leadership committees that are designed to improve patient care and enhance relationships with providers Attends medical provider meetings in alignment with organizational contracts and funding Coordinates communication with the Felton Medical Team to ensure alignment and awareness of changing policies Other related duties and responsibilities that may be assigned or requested from time to time Minimum Qualifications: Completion of a 4-year accredited residency in psychiatry with current eligibility to take the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology exam (ABPN), or already ABPN board-certified. Current unrestricted California Medical License Unrestricted DEA certificate A minimum of 3-5 years of experience with chronically mentally ill and/or transitional age youth. Experience working with multi-disciplinary team preferred Knowledge of Community Behavioral Health Services and community resources Knowledge of County, State and Federal requirements for documentation and reporting Assessing/Monitoring Skills: Assessing/Monitoring mental health of clients and making treatment plan/medication changes needed Supervisory skills to review and provide feedback to nurse practitioner and other clinical and medical staff Experience-based clinical judgment to inform decision making Excellent written and verbal skills Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail Cultural competency to work with individuals from all racial, cultural and religious backgrounds and any sexual orientation. Willingness to do home visits for clients Additional language skills a plus Ability be a team player with a welcoming attitude Additional Information: Reports to: Director of TAY and Adult Mental Health Services Job Type: Full-Time Work Schedule: Onsite FLSA Status: Exempt Salary Range: $340,000 - $380,000 Annually (DOE) Benefits (subject to election and eligibility): Fully-Paid Medical and Dental Plans; Health Reimbursement Card, Paid Time Off (personal, vacation, and sick time), 403B with company match.
