A successful business for the past 30 years, our client is one of the leading providers of alternative dispute resolution services in California. They provide reputable dispute resolution services through experienced mediators, arbitrators, referees, and private trials with retired judges and attorneys and a proven track record of success. They are now seeking a qualified Controller to oversee their accounting operations.
Job Responsibilities:
Maximizes return on financial assets by evaluating and establishing financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. Guides financial decisions by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing policies and procedures. Protects assets by establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal controls. Monitors and confirms financial condition by conducting audits and providing information to external auditors. Maximizes return and limits risk on cash by minimizing bank balances and making investments. Prepares budgets by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; forecasting and recommending plans. Achieves budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions. Provides status of financial condition by collecting, interpreting, and reporting financial data. Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends. Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, filing financial reports, and advising management on needed actions. Ensures operation of equipment by establishing preventive maintenance requirements and service contracts, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques. Oversees and manages an accounting team of 5 employees Completes operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees, following up on work results. Handles the finance/accounting team by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees. Provides coaching and counseling of accounting team, and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results. Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential.
Controller Qualifications / Skills:
Managing processes Financial software (Currently utilizing QuickBooks) Developing standards Auditing, accounting, and corporate finance Forecasting Tracking budget expenses Financial skills Analyzing information Developing budgets Performance management
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in accounting/finance, preferably at a business services company or firm that deals with clients. Five or more years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant), desired but not mandatory. Experience with financial reporting requirements and QuickBooks accounting software
Work Hours & Benefits: This is on onsite position. Hours are 9 AM to 6 PM.
