Description Amazon’s Intelligent Cloud Hosting (ICON) team is looking for a Software Development Engineer (SDE) to join our team! Our team is responsible for hosting Amazon’s websites, which includes all of Amazon’s global marketplaces and partner portals as well as consumer experiences like Kindle, Alexa, Amazon Video, and the Mobile Application. We’re a diverse international team made up of engineers, developers, administrators and managers. Furthermore, we’re obsessed with operational quality, security, reducing cost, increasing availability and keeping the largest eCommerce infrastructure purring. The challenges that SDEs solve at Amazon are big and influence millions of customers and stakeholders. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about creating new products, features, and services from scratch while managing ambiguity where development cycles are measured in weeks, not years. As a SDE on the team, you will solve complex, mission critical compute and operation problems from design to delivery. You will work on tier-1, multi-tenant, high performance systems, with technical challenges unique to this kind of scale and throughput. A big part of our job is creating and updating strategic developer productivity tools built on AWS technology. We use these tools across Amazon to deploy, monitor and operate the hundreds of thousands of services that power our highly distributed architecture. Our tools include orchestration, predictive analytics, monitoring, issue diagnosis and automated repair. These let us deploy configurations that intelligently manage how traffic flows through our highly distributed architecture to our delighted customers. Key job responsibilities Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the organization. Collaborate with a team of truly innovative engineers and product managers to understand and refine the scope of incoming projects, and to ensure deliverables meet a high quality bar. Design and code the right solutions, starting with broadly defined problems. Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software About the team We own connecting Amazon worldwide websites and other experiences such as Kindle, Amazon Video, and Alexa to the internet, as well as ensuring the highest level of availability, security and privacy of the web services that power the experience we deliver to our customers worldwide. We abstract, centralize and optimize the infrastructure management from individual service teams and operate 120+ Tier-1 services on behalf of teams in the Worldwide Amazon Stores org. We own the routing layer built on top of AWS technology that connects traffic at low latency and protects the web services against malicious robot and DDoS attacks. Basic Qualifications 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience Experience programming with at least one software programming language Preferred Qualifications 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
