Job Description
We are inviting applications for the role of Accounting Specialist in based in Tuskegee, Alabama. This position offers a contract to permanent employment opportunity. As a Accounting Specialist, your primary focus will be on tracking and managing grants, maintaining financial records, and handling customer inquiries in an efficient and accurate manner.
Responsibilities:
• Track incoming grants and understand their performance period, principal investigator, and reporting requirements
• Utilize Excel to manually manage and track specific data that cannot be captured in the financial system
• Ensure effective management of accounting transactions related to grants
• Handle customer inquiries and resolve them in a timely and efficient manner
• Monitor customer accounts and take appropriate action when necessary
• Process customer credit applications with accuracy and efficiency
• Maintain accurate customer credit records
• Use accounting software systems to perform various accounting functions
• Perform duties related to accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Conduct audits as and when required
• Use Microsoft Excel for various tasks including merging spreadsheets and using vlookup function
• Understand and manage government grants effectively
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or business related field
• Extensive knowledge and experience in Accounting Functions
• Capability to manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
• In-depth understanding of Auditing processes and procedures
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for financial data analysis and reporting
• Experience in handling Government Grants in a higher education setting is a plus
• Sound knowledge of principles and practices of financial record keeping
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
