JOB TITLE: Accounting Manager

JOB SUMMARY: This position is responsible for overseeing all areas of AVEO’s day-to-day accounting operations. Reporting to the Senior Controller, the Accounting Manager will manage and direct the recording of the company’s financial transactions and ensure compliance with accounting standards. This role involves working under tight deadlines and participating in multiple accounting activities including general ledger preparation, AP/AR, clinical trial accruals, and year-end audit and tax filing preparation. The Accounting Manager will have contact with senior-level staff, requiring strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  1. Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
  2. Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations with the Senior Controller.
  3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams on the month-end close accrual process.
  4. Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  5. Assist the Assistant Controller with the external audit process, liaising with external auditors to address inquiries and facilitate a smooth audit.
  6. Mentor and guide junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented work environment.
  7. Prepare and maintain the month-end close schedule, book journal entries, and ensure that all monthly transactions are reported accurately.
  8. Ensure that all reconciliations are accurately maintained and include all applicable backup.
  9. Review Accounts Payable and Payroll transactions.
  10. Team with the Senior Controller on the monthly Revenue and Gross to Net Calculations.
  11. Work with the Senior Controller on the monthly management of inventory.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE (BASIC QUALIFICATIONS):

  1. BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting, CPA preferred.
  2. 4-6 years industry experience.
  3. Experience with Clinical Trials, manufacturing, or commercial pharmaceuticals preferred.
  4. Experience with NetSuite and Concur preferred.
  5. Prior experience with accounting system implementations is preferred.
  6. Experience with SOX compliance is preferred.
  7. Demonstrated proficiency as an Advanced MS Excel user required – Pivot Tables/Charts, VLOOKUP, SUMIF Functions, etc. and other MS Office applications – Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  8. Strong time management and organizational skills and the ability to provide quality work product in a deadline-driven environment.
  9. High degree of attention to detail.
  10. Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and verbal), high service orientation, and ability to thrive in a collaborative, flexible culture.
  11. Ability to effectively work independently, collaboratively, and cross-functionally.
  12. Possess a firm understanding of U.S. GAAP and practices of accrual-based accounting and maintaining financial records.
