Job Description:
Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
Mountain Empire Community College invites applications for adjunct instructors to teach Health Sciences classes in various areas. We are seeking applicants available for on-campus, online, and clinical instruction for daytime and/or evenings and/or weekends. Salary is based on the academic preparation and work experience of the applicant and is determined according to the VCCS Adjunct Pay Schedule. Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom/virtual/clinical environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
Minimum Qualifications:
KSAs and Competencies Required for Success in the Position:
* Has a thorough understanding of diversity in student populations and the ability to connect with, include, and consider all student populations in curriculum development and teaching.
* Understands and has a belief in the comprehensive mission of community colleges.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders important to the college.
* Knowledge of and ability to integrate technology in the classroom and via distance delivery modes.
* Proficient in oral and written communication.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
* Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) designation OR eligibility to obtain CDA through RDH/occupational experience.
* Satisfactory clinical experience in Dental Assisting.
* Ability to work flexible hours, including day and evening hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree (completed or in progress) in any field.
* DA-II or Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) certifications (Virginia Board of Dentistry).
* Teaching experience in college-level courses.
* Strong written and oral communication skills.
* Demonstrated ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds.
