General Summary
Heavy Equipment Operators are responsible for safely and efficiently operating various pieces of heavy mobile equipment, including but not limited to Dozers, Loaders, Excavators, Articulated Trucks, and Motor Graders to support a project located in Northern New Mexico.
Essential Job Accountabilities
- Safely operate heavy equipment to excavate, move, load and grade earth, rock, gravel, and other materials.
- Perform various activities including but not limited to road building, fine grading, finishing, sloping, backfilling, excavating, stockpiling, road surface maintenance, building and maintaining road berms, loading trucks, and trenching.
- Operate heavy equipment in accordance with the company's safety policies and procedures.
- Ensure operation of equipment is within capabilities and limitations.
- Perform required safety inspections and complete documentation.
- Maintain a clean and safe job site.
- Mentor other equipment operators.
- Perform other duties as required.
Education
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience, preferred.
Work Experience
- 5 years or more of experience operating heavy rubber tire OR
- 7 years or more of experience operating tracked equipment, required.
- GPS (Trimble) experience, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations, preferred.
- Ability to operate equipment within designated area with attention to detail.
- Ability to work weekdays and weekends, day, swing, and/or night shifts (occasionally extended hours).
- Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.
- Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.
Physical Demands
- Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.
- Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.

- Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.
- Ability and willingness to abide by Granite's Code of Conduct daily.
