Job Description

This is part-time position as a Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, EKG (MAPE) Program instructor. In most cases, course dates follow the eight-week schedules for GBC, and skills and clinical days vary according to the schedule that is set by each instructor and approved by the MAPE Program Director. The position reports to the MAPE Program Director.

This position may require travel by car to other GBC campuses, with or without accommodations as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

This is a grant-funded position lasting through the spring semester of 2025. Sustaining the position beyond that time depends on the availability of funding.

This position is to be filled by August 1, 2024.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, the candidate must meet one of the following sets of qualifications:
  • Must be a registered nurse or a credentialed medical assistant with a current and unincumbered nursing license/or national certification.
  • A recent background in medical assisting, nursing, or phlebotomy is strongly preferred, and willing to take the National Healthcareer Association Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national credentialing exam.
  • Be currently certified or willing to be certified as an American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support Instructor. Must maintain current instructor status through AHA.
  • Be able to work full shifts that may vary from 6 to 9 hours observing students in the laboratory and clinical settings.
  • Ability to understand the core curriculum for medical assistants (MAERB)
  • Show evidence of ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Must be self-motivated with excellent organizational skills. Demonstrate a positive, encouraging approach to dealing with students and coworkers.
  • Demonstrate collegiality and flexibility in working as a team member.
  • Proficiency in evaluation, instruction, tracking, and documenting required.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the College and the Health Sciences and Human Services Department and its programs.


Responsibilities:

Serves as a part-time faculty for MAPE students for all aspects related to the delivery of classroom curriculum and clinical learning activities for the MAPE program. May potentially participate in the Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, or EKG technician credentialing examination set forth by the National Healthcareer Association. Other responsibilities include the following:
  • Teach MAPE courses as directed, including online, lab, and clinical components of courses.
  • Assist MAPE Program Director in the implementation and execution of all facets of curricula as appropriate to program courses, objectives, protocol and standards.
  • Manage and supervise individuals and groups in classrooms, online, through interactive video, simulations, and in labs and clinical areas.
  • Evaluate student performance and achievement of outcomes.
  • Participates in related training programs and professional development activities as necessary.
  • Please be aware that clinical facilities may require current vaccinations, current BLS certification, insurance and other site-specific requirements that must be met and maintained to teach in the clinical setting. This is managed through Complio. Maintaining Complio compliance is required for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Salary and Benefits:

This is a part-time non-benefits eligible position. This position will not work more than 160 hours in a semester. Instructors will be paid by the class. Rate per class will be paid at a customary rate for the type of instruction.
