Chief Financial Officer The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) oversees an organization's accounting operations and business office functions. This role involves managing financial reporting, supervising accounting personnel, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting audit activities. The CAO plays a critical role in cash flow management, budget oversight, and serving as a liaison between various departments and leadership. Key Responsibilities Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including journal entries. Reconcile all bank accounts and investment portfolios. Review accounts receivable and accounts payable, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in operations. Conduct weekly cash flow analyses to meet the organization’s financial needs. Oversee cash requirements for payroll and other recurring expenses. Manage short-term financing solutions, such as lines of credit, as necessary. Prepare required federal, state, and local financial reports. Ensure timely submission of annual reports and tax filings, including 1099s and other compliance-related documents. Assist with external and internal audit processes by preparing necessary workpapers and documentation. Lead and manage personnel in accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other accounting functions. Conduct regular team meetings and provide coaching and professional development opportunities. Develop and oversee the departmental budget. Distribute monthly budget and expenditure reports to department leaders. Serve as a financial advisor to organizational leadership on accounting matters and financial strategies. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required). Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or a CPA designation (preferred). Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities. Experience with fund accounting or nonprofit accounting is a plus. Strong knowledge of accounting principles and standards. Proficiency with accounting software and financial reporting tools. Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills. Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
