The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology is actively seeking Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) Trainee and MLS 1 candidates to join the crew! Play a key role in patient care by performing clinical diagnostic laboratory testing, contact appropriate personnel for unusual or critical finds, and utilize the laboratory information system for test result entry and data acquisition. Exercise Critical Thinking Skills:

Exercise your critical thinking skills to help design, develop, evaluate, and troubleshoot procedures and problems in the laboratory. Calibrate, operate, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance of laboratory instruments and related equipment. Assure Quality Control:

Adhere to quality control requirements to validate test results and ensure patient and personnel safety. Prepare and verify the quality of reagents, standards, and control samples. Engage in Teamwork and Leadership:

Apply your professional expertise by instructing and training new employees, post-doctoral fellows, residents, and students. Act as a resource to internal and external clients, including physicians and nurses. Complete Related Duties as Required:

For example, you may assist and instruct patients and medical staff in proper specimen collection techniques or assist physicians in obtaining and preparing bone marrow specimens for evaluation. What you’ll need: Requirements for MLS Trainee:

Accredited Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education/experience. AND Eligible to take the Medical Laboratory Scientist certification examination from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) within eighteen (18) months from date of hire. Failure to attain this certification within eighteen months of date of hire may result in recommendation for termination. Requirements for MLS 1:

Accredited Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR equivalent education/experience. AND Current Medical Laboratory Scientist certification with the American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent certifying organization; or certification with specialty organization. AND One year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist Trainee. Up to one year of on-the-job experience performing clinical testing in a Medical Laboratory Science Program externship may count towards the experience requirement. PLEASE NOTE:
