Hybrid The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in the finance department, primarily responsible for reviewing and processing payment requests to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies. This position involves responding to inquiries from both internal and external stakeholders, as well as recording journal entries in a timely and accurate manner. Key responsibilities include enforcing American Councils policies and procedures, researching and resolving payment inquiries, reconciling staff advance accounts, and processing credit card transactions. The Staff Accountant will also be responsible for maintaining effective communication with vendors and program staff, ensuring that all transactions are managed smoothly and efficiently. In addition, this role involves assisting the Senior Accounts Payable Specialist with various tasks and projects as needed. Collaboration is essential in this position, as the Staff Accountant works closely with all finance team members, contributing to the overall success of the department. The Staff Accountant reports directly to the Senior Accounts Payable Specialist and is expected to uphold the highest standards of accuracy and professionalism in all accounting functions. This role offers an excellent opportunity for growth and development within the finance field. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Review and verify the accuracy of payment requests to ensure correct coding and approval and sufficient documentation for processing payments. Processing payment requests in the Business Central, adding new vendors to the database, and assisting in setting up Checks, ACH, and Wire payments. Research and resolve inquiries regarding all aspects of the accounts payable process, including payment status, resolving discrepancies, and acting as a bank liaison. Follow up with employees' advance accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness and perform monthly reconciliations. Assist in the quarter and end-year closing process, including reconciliation, accrual, deferrals, and work papers. Monitor the AP email inbox and respond timely to all inquiries. Recording General Ledger journal entries timely and accurately. Assist in the preparation and issuance of yearly Form 1099s for the company's vendors. Maintain accurate and organized records of files and documentation per company policy and accepted accounting practices. Responsible for the monthly credit card reconciliations for the back-end office. Process recurring payments in the Accounting system. Actively support institutional or program audits by preparing schedules, reconciling accounts, retrieving backup documentation, etc. Perform all other Accounting duties and tasks as assigned. Qualifications

Bachelor's or associate degree in accounting preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of accounting experience preferred. Experience with Microsoft Excel is required; familiarity with Business Central or other accounting systems is preferred. Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion in handling financial information, ensuring employee data is kept confidential. This position is eligible for benefits, including healthcare benefits.
