Position overview:

Amani Family Services, Inc. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will provide strategic financial leadership while overseeing IT, human resources, and operational functions. The CFO will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health and long-term sustainability of the organization, as well as lead efforts to strengthen organizational infrastructure in support of Amani's mission to serve immigrant and refugee families. The CFO will be responsible for financial planning, analysis, reporting, grant management, and fiscal compliance, as well as managing human resources and IT systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Supervisory Responsibility

This position oversees the Accounting, HR, and IT functions, ensuring alignment with Amani’s financial, grant, and operational goals.

Financial Leadership

Provide strategic leadership in financial forecasting, planning, and budgeting to support Amani’s growth and sustainability.

Manage the organization’s financial operations, including revenue reconciliation, cash flow management, financial reporting, and budget oversight.

Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including the preparation of financial statements and reports for the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.

Ensure compliance with GAAP, federal, state, and local legal requirements.

Lead the organization’s financial audits and oversee the preparation of 990 filings in collaboration with external auditors.

Evaluate and implement upgrades to financial systems, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.

Grant Budgeting and Fiscal Reporting

Lead the development and management of grant budgets in collaboration with program managers and the development team.

Ensure that all grant-related financial information adheres to grantor guidelines and donor intent, including the proper use of restricted funds.

Oversee the financial reporting process for all grants, ensuring timely and accurate submission of fiscal reports to grantors.

Monitor grant spending, provide variance analysis, and work with program teams to ensure proper allocation and tracking of grant expenses.

Collaborate with the fundraising team to create grant proposals with detailed financial plans and forecasts.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and private grant requirements, conducting financial analysis to support grant renewal applications.

Human Resources (HR) Oversight

Lead and manage the HR functions, including payroll processing, benefits administration, and employee relations.

Develop and implement HR policies and procedures that align with organizational goals and ensure legal compliance.

Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluation processes.

Work with department heads to foster employee engagement, professional development, and a culture of inclusivity and philanthropy.

IT Oversight

Manage IT infrastructure, including systems upgrades, data security, and technology implementations that support organizational efficiency.

Collaborate with external IT vendors and consultants to ensure data privacy, cybersecurity, and adherence to industry best practices.

Oversee technology resources, software management, and troubleshooting to support operations across departments.

Ensure staff training on new technologies and ongoing IT support.

Collaboration and Leadership

Act as a liaison between the Finance Committee, CEO, program managers, and external contractors, ensuring financial, HR, and IT strategies align with organizational objectives.

Participate as a key member of the leadership team to advance Amani’s mission, organizational culture, and long-term sustainability.

Foster an environment of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement across all departments.

Compliance and Risk Management

Monitor organizational risks, including financial, HR, and IT-related risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them.

Ensure all organizational practices comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including labor laws and data protection laws.

Oversee insurance, liability, and other risk management programs.

Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field. CPA, MBA, or equivalent advanced degree highly preferred.

Experience:

Minimum of 7 years of progressive financial management experience, including overseeing IT, HR, and grant management functions, preferably in a nonprofit setting.

Skills:

Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.

Proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

Proven ability to manage financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, grant budgeting, and strategic financial planning.

Experience with financial management of grants, including compliance and reporting.

Strong leadership skills with experience managing HR and IT functions.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

Adaptable and solutions-oriented with a commitment to continuous process improvement.

Professional technology skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, and database software.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.

Strong administrative, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, time management, verbal communication, and writing and presentation skills are required.

Attention to detail is a must.

Must be able to meet deadlines.

Ability to work in and adapt to the culture of a multi-cultural, community-based organization.

Understanding and ability to follow all policies and procedures of Amani.

High level of independent judgment.

Ability to work effectively with minimal management guidance/supervision and communicate well with others.

Self-starter with great self-leadership.

Must be reliable and consistent with attendance and punctuality to work.

Satisfactory background checks (i.e. fingerprint, criminal history record, and motor vehicle report), as well as positive professional references are required.

Must be able to show valid proof of employment eligibility in the United States of America.

Must have a valid driver’s license, daily access to reliable transportation, and proof of personal automobile insurance meeting Amani’s required coverage levels.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The CFO will operate in a professional office environment and regularly interact with staff, external stakeholders, and the Board of Directors.

Constant exposure to office work environment, which is typically controlled, agreeable, and in a non-smoking office.

A person in this position needs to frequently move about inside the office and frequent off-site meetings.

Must be able to remain in a stationary position up to 70% of the time.
