POSITION SUMMARY
The Application Engineer plans, designs, and coordinates commercial and industrial HVAC equipment into the manufacturing process. This position will work with the manufacturer's representatives, consulting engineers and the sustaining engineering teams to plan, design and specify said equipment. This position is responsible for designing and generating creative solutions, translating concepts, reviewing project specifications and mechanical building plans to select and layout standard and custom HVAC equipment for use in commercial and industrial buildings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions Statement(s) Analyzes performance requirements and designs configuration of HVAC equipment based on schedules and specifications set forth by customer and/or engineer. Specifies components, materials, and capacities of standard and custom HVAC equipment. Prepares detailed design and quotations for components and engineering requirements to be used in HVAC equipment Performs detailed cost analysis of HVAC equipment including purchased components, margin analysis and fabrication labor. Prepare scope letters and project proposals for presentation to reps and customers. Works with consulting engineers to generate preliminary designs and layouts of custom HVAC equipment in order to become basis of design in the project specifications. Prepares submittals for customer and engineer's review utilizing selection software and other computer programs. Negotiates price, terms, and conditions with outside vendors used to meet projects needs and requirements. Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in field. Confers with peers in various departments including sales, engineering, and fabrication shop to provide technical information. Maintains a good understanding of various building HVAC systems and how our products compete with alternative HVAC technologies. Has a clear understanding of derivative order launch process from specification / order initiation to build and ship. Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure new products are optimized for manufacturability, installation and field service. Skills & Abilities
Education:
Bachelor's or master's Degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent. MS degree Preferred Experience:
High:10 years of Mechanical / Electrical engineering experience preferred. Computer Skills:
Working familiarity with various CAD and 2d drawing programs Advanced with Microsoft Office suite products Certificates & Licenses:
Lean, or DMAIC Six Sigma background preferred Other Requirements:
Strong knowledge of HVAC system design and applications Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics and heat transfer Strong knowledge of the HVAC industry and building codes that relate to HVAC equipment like ASHRAE standards
Good familiarity with regulatory entities including UL, ETL, AHRI, and ASHRAE preferred.
