The Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning seeks to provide a place where all learners can grow, interdisciplinary collaborations can form, and educators can experiment with different modalities of teaching and learning. Through educational partnerships at Brown and globally, we advance the university's mission and create teaching and learning communities dedicated to improving learner success and supporting educators' professional growth.

Responsibilities:

The Executive Director leads the Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning-encompassing academic support, assessment, educational development, digital learning, and online program development teams-and promotes a culture of evidence-based teaching at Brown that enables all learners to succeed. The position connects Center initiatives to Brown's key strategic plans, Building on Distinction and Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion, as well as all campus priorities related to teaching and learning, and solicits input from Brown's communities to create responsive programs and services for the Center's diverse constituencies including faculty, staff, postdocs, and graduate and undergraduate teachers and learners. The position also provides oversight for key resources of the Sheridan Center (personnel, budget, data) and leads/contributes to projects or committees to shape Brown's educational policies and practices. The position serves as a liaison to external constituencies (e.g., media, professional associations, funding agencies) to connect the university to best practices elsewhere and make visible innovative teaching and learning at Brown. This position reports to the Deputy Provost and may carry a faculty appointment.

Qualifications:

Academic Qualifications Earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree Nationally or internationally recognized track record in the scholarship of teaching and learning, including peer-reviewed publications Teaching experience at the collegiate level (as instructor of record) and demonstrated record of superb teaching skills Significant experience working across disciplines to advance academic change processes Demonstrated knowledge of theories, models, and practical applications of higher education teaching, learning outcomes, and academic assessment Record of leadership in organizations on college teaching or educational development preferred Organizational and Leadership Qualifications

10+ years of progressive experience in administration supporting teaching and learning, which includes supervisory, budgeting, and strategic planning experience Excellent written and verbal communication skills Experience in planning, delivering, and evaluating educational development programs Demonstrated ability to effectively manage projects and people Demonstrated success in grant writing and/or fundraising preferred Evaluation or assessment experience preferred Experience in an integrated center for teaching and learning (i.e., units that integrate educational development, student academic support, and/or digital learning) preferred Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment Salary Grade:
