The VCV-Science Model Optimization and Algorithms Development team brings innovative AI research into Apple products.

Description

We are looking for a strong ML applied scientist and engineer to build groundbreaking AI infrastructures to power the infrastructures that Apple in-house ML experts use every day to optimize models shipped on devices and servers for Apple Intelligence. You will work with a collaborative group of software developers and deep learning authorities in the area of neural network optimization, on-device inference, and model evaluation. You will develop reliable and scalable web services for ML developers, including model optimization pipelines, effective ML development workflows, and infrastructure to serve internal services.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Experience developing, optimizing, or training large language models (LLMs), large computer vision models, or generative AI models.
2. Software engineering skills in Python and general-purpose system administration and infrastructure management abilities.
3. History of applied research in the neural network model lifecycle, training, or a related application area.
4. Track record of driving scientific investigations and experiments and overcoming obstacles and uncertainty in a research environment.
5. BS degree and 3+ years of proven experience.

Key Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

1. Publication record at top AI/ML venues.
2. Experience with LLM LoRA fine-tuning, neural network optimization (e.g., quantization and compression).
3. Experience with on-device/server scale deployment.
4. Experience with languages like C/C++.
5. Infrastructure management and debugging experience.
6. Experimental rigor when training/evaluating LLMs for the purpose of benchmarking LLM optimization algorithms.
7. Strong communication and accountability skills; hard-working, strong work ethic, and collaboration abilities.
8. PhD in a related field.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. The base pay range for this role is between $135,400 and $250,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Apple employees also have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs. You’ll also receive benefits including comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, and reimbursement for certain educational expenses related to advancing your career at Apple.
