Generac Clean Energy is looking for a motivated Firmware Engineer with insatiable curiosity to help create next generation energy storage products. The successful applicant will join a team of highly knowledgeable and collaborative engineers. You will have the opportunity to solve challenging problems that unlock residential PV and energy storage systems at mass scale. In this role as a Firmware Engineer III you will be responsible for providing firmware for embedded controls systems used in new product development, new or enhancements to system features, and existing product firmware support where needed. This role will be specifically involved in helping the design and development of new controls or algorithms, and system testing both in the lab and on real products. The position is ideally based in our Reno NV office or in optionally in Billerica MA. Both locations are in office. Major Responsibilities: Design algorithms and state machines to control the operation of an energy-storage system in real time. Apply industry best practices to deliver simple, high-quality firmware that is well tested, documented and meets requirements. Write automated tests and integrate them into a continuous integration environment. Own sub-systems of the firmware, drive architecture that can scale as needs evolve. Coach junior engineers, perform code reviews and improve the development process. Lead functional safety architecture and processes including FMEA driven development for adherence and validation to meet UL1998 and related functional safety standards. Drive firmware development for performance, scalability, robustness, and tight integration with the hardware. Hands-on hardware bring-up, build and execute component validation to deliver robust, functional code. Develop, enhance and debug new and existing real-time firmware in C. Deliver high-quality code in a real-time embedded environment. Less than 10% travel Minimum Job Requirements BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; MS preferred. 5 years of engineering experience with demonstrated expertise in firmware development and device communication. Expert knowledge of C programming language, embedded systems, RTOS and microcontroller HW and protocols (such as SPI communication, DMA). Demonstrated delivery of firmware for products at scale and quality Experience with CAN bus, DBC file management and CAN bus tools like cantools, PCAN Explorer, Vector Canalyzer or CANApe is desired Demonstrated success implementing and improving firmware development processes. Excellent software fundamentals including architectural design, algorithm development, data structures, code modularity, and maintainability Experience with test driven development, unit testing, SIL, or HIL. Preferred Qualifications: Prior expertise in power electronics, or battery product development is a plus. Familiarity with Python and pytest and git is highly desirable.
