About the Role
The Operational Technology (OT) Cybersecurity Engineer is responsible for establishing, executing, and supporting the Maritime Cybersecurity OT and Information technology (IT) strategy and program initiatives for vessels and terminals. The role will serve as a maritime cyber risk subject matter expert to leaders across various lines of business.
Accountabilities for this position include:
Oversee cybersecurity efforts for OT systems within or connected to shipboard and shoreside environments; includes ensuring systems are implemented and maintained in accordance with maritime cybersecurity guidelines, regulations, and corporate information security standards. This role will also influence the maritime industry by partnering with external organizations to improve and promote cybersecurity throughout the maritime industry.
What you'll do:
- Manage cybersecurity remediation or enhancement program efforts to manage cyber risks to vessel and terminal operations
- Define and track remediation plans to ensure that vessel and terminal OT vulnerabilities and defects are mitigated on-time to reduce risk to systems and information
- Recommend infrastructure improvements to Operations and Information Security
- Where potential system weaknesses are found, partner with other team members within Information Security, IT, and business units to implement controls
- Leverage external information sharing forums to ensure our maritime cybersecurity program is staying current of emerging industry practices
- Evaluate innovative technology and practices that will support and evolve the maritime cybersecurity program
- Able to develop secure maritime solutions tailored for Matson's environment to address complex problems
- Define and decompose system and functional requirements
- Document specifications, design (architecture), development, and requirements traceability
- Develop and report performance metrics that demonstrate positive business impacts and risk reduction
- Direct various engineering disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and software to translate requirements into secure operational environments
- Provide system level modeling, analysis, and security design for a variety of maritime systems
- Support secure configuration of maritime OT and IT systems
- Make crucial configuration changes on company systems in strict adherence to change management policies
- Document and maintain security, architectural designs of vessel and terminal systems
- Continuously ensure documentation is kept up to date after making system changes

You have these skills:
- Ability to identify, prioritize and execute remediation activities based on risk to the overall shipboard or shoreside enterprise
- Demonstrate strong organization skills and time management.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects while ensuring deadlines are met
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management and SMEs about security solutions and changes affecting the organization
- Able to exercise good judgement in selecting the proper modes of communication
- Able to effectively translate complex system information into common terms understandable to Matson business entities and Executive leadership
- Able to encourage cooperation with astute technical resources with differing opinions to reach security solutions
And these qualifications:
- Five years as an engineer supporting maritime product and solution implementation or degree in Mechanical Engineering and two years of experience, preferred.
- Relevant certifications with a focus on OT/ICS/SCADA cybersecurity are highly desired, to include the following: CMCP, ISA Certified Automation Professional or Certified Control Systems Technician.
- Must be able to travel up to 50% - travel to offices, vessels, terminals, and third-party facilities to complete responsibilities
The annual salary range for this position in California and Washington is $101,600 - $138,200. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
