Job Description
The Accounting Supervisor oversees the accounting team in the Bursar's Office, reviewing the reconciliation of various state funds, local funds, and the Title IV aid program. They work with the Financial Aid Office to ensure complete disbursement of available financial aid funds, coordinate cash management, and supervise aid billings, including to the Department of Education and the VT Foundation. To provide management with information to aid in decision-making, and to comply with the Commonwealth's quarterly reporting guidelines, the Accounting Supervisor prepares reports, tracks variances, and analyzes Accounts Receivable data for the Bursar's Office. They also serve as the liaison between General Accounting and the Bursar's Office to ensure a successful feed of daily revenue and payment transactions from the Accounts Receivable system to Finance. This position is responsible for establishing and maintaining AR detail codes and annually updates the percentage splits of all comprehensive fee detail codes. The Accounting Supervisor assists departments who post general receivables in the AR system with the correct procedures for reporting and reconciling their revenue to Finance and serves as a resource for Bursar and departmental staff on related topics.
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent level of training and or experience.
•Accounting or reconciliation experience, including demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.
•Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting and applying complex policies and procedures.
•High comfort level working with technology, including spreadsheet software to perform data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
•Master's degree in accounting or finance or a related field.
•Previous experience working in a higher education environment, especially student accounts or financial aid.
•Previous experience using Ellucian's Banner, including the accounts receivable module, or another comparable ERP.
•Demonstrated familiarity and experience interpretating of federal, state, and local laws and regulatory processes related to accounts receivable management and/or student accounts.
•Previous supervisory experience.
•Knowledge of SQL or another structured querying language.
