Job descriptionJob Summary:Customer designs and manufactures high-power hydrogen fuel cell technology, and integrates this technology into zero-emissions solutions, starting with commercial trucks. A low-cost, clean hydrogen infrastructure approach synchronizes supply with demand, putting clean trucks on the road faster. For nearly two decades, our fuel cell technology has been developed, tested, and implemented - and now Customer is putting this proprietary technology to work in the US, Europe, and Australia. Customer's proprietary fuel cell technology, in-house manufacturing, and asset-light business model set us apart, and position us to accelerate the energy transition. Based in Rochester, New York, Customer's global footprint includes offices in North America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.• The customer is actively seeking a Controls Software Engineer who will be responsible for the development, implementation, optimization, and testing of control algorithms to join our Vehicle Software team.• Work closely with controls, systems, and integration engineers to develop control systems for fuel cell electric vehicles and powertrains, as well as engage in system calibration and software verification testing.• Develop embedded software for FCEV system controllers (Vehicle Control Unit, Fuel Cell, Hydrogen Management System, Battery Management, etc.).Develop vehicle network architecture, system requirements, and software based on J1939/UDSIntegrate FCEV system controllers into commercial vehicle applications and support all phases of the product development life cycle.• Derive controls and software requirements and design strategies based on system requirements and component specifications.• Implement software utilizing model-based design in MATLAB/Simulink.• Perform control strategy and software testing using MIL/HIL simulation.• Develop vehicle test cases and perform vehicle-level testing.• Perform troubleshooting, root cause analysis, calibration, component flash, and on-site software engineering support.• Participate in the cross-functional system, design, DFMEA, and DVP reviews.• Develop diagnostic and OBD reporting software to meet the Zero Emission Powertrain requirements for certification.• Support the development of functional safety and cybersecurity related requirements and designs for vehicles and major subsystems.

Qualifications:• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.Experience:• 6+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years in a lead role.• 2+ years of requirement development experience.• 2+ years of systems engineering experience.• Experience with automotive or commercial vehicle application software development using Matlab/Simulink.• Experience with J1939 and UDS communication protocols and Vector tools (CANalyzer, CANoe or CANape etc.) for network message/signal management, communication testing, and network analysis.• Experience with software testing using MIL/HIL or on real systems such as fuel cells, electrical powertrains, or commercial vehicles.• Experience creating DFMEA and executing DVP.• Experience with OBD reporting and DSM configuration.• Experience with configuration management using GIT or equivalent version control systems.

Skills:• Familiar with the ISO26262 development process.• Familiar with software development lifecycle using industry best design practices and guidelines.• Familiar with MBD workflow and guidelines, and software integration using Autosar or traditional methodology.• Strong written and oral communication skills to explain and document work.• bility to work collaboratively in a team environment, resolve ambiguity, and drive for results.• Strong problem-solving, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting capability to debug system issues, establish root causes, and implement corrective actions.• Strong technical capability to understand software design concepts and implementations.• Strong technical writing ability to create clear and concise architectures and requirements.• strong sense of ownership and drive to deliver.
