Gartner Chief Data Office team is seeking a highly motivated Data Modeler consultant to take on the challenge of transforming how Gartner manages and uses our critical information assets. As a data modeler, you will be responsible for transforming business information into a data model by engaging with the business users and soliciting their requirements and iteratively refine the conceptual, logical, and physical data models. The data modeling solutions should be able to support relational SMP and MPP databases in a multi-cloud environment. These solutions will support reporting, analytics, machine learning, data science, and other business interests. As a data modeler, you will be working closely with data architects and data analysts to implement data modeling solutions.The successful candidate will:1. Be responsible for the development of the conceptual, logical, and physical data models, the implementation of RDBMS, operational data store (ODS), data marts, and data lakes on target platforms (SQL/NoSQL).2. Oversee and govern the expansion of existing data architecture and the optimization of data query performance using best practices.To be successful in this role, you should have in-depth knowledge of data modeling, data warehousing, as well as excellent collaboration and communication skills. The perfect candidate should be able to design models that reduce data redundancy, streamline data movement, and improve enterprise information management.What you will do:• Engage with business users to assess their information needs.• Review the business process and conceptualize the entities that interoperate within the business process.• Determine how the various entities are related and develop entity relationship diagrams that represent the connections among the entities.• Identify each entity's characteristics and properties and ensure that the entities can be differentiated within the model.• Develop a logical data model and validate the model to ensure that it serves the needs of the business application and its consumers.• Transform the logical representation of the model into a physical representation and work with database administrators to instantiate and manage the data.• Maintain the metadata - describing the model, structure, and semantics.• Recommend and establish standards, guidelines, procedures for design and maintenance.• Define and govern data modeling and design standards, tools, best practices, and related development for enterprise data models.• Identify the architecture, infrastructure, and interfaces to data sources, tools supporting automated data loads, security concerns, analytic models, and data visualization.• Work proactively and independently to address project requirements and articulate issues/challenges to reduce project delivery risks.• Working with the development team to create conceptual data models and data flows.• Reviewing modifications of existing systems for cross-compatibility.What you will need:• 8+ years of hands-on relational, dimensional, NoSQL and MPP database experience.• 5+ years of demonstrated ability to create conceptual, logical, and physical relational data models.• Strong analytical, data profiling and problem-solving skills.• Advanced SQL Skills.• In depth knowledge of modeling methodologies and techniques.• Experience with SAAS platform technologies, data warehousing, data lake, and enterprise level big data platforms.• Bachelor's or master's degree in Management information systems, Computer Science, or equivalent information technology discipline.• Knowledge of Business Intelligence and Reporting platforms preferred but not required• Expert knowledge of metadata management and related tools.• Strong verbal and written communication skills.• Advanced troubleshooting skills.• In-depth knowledge of Lucid Charts or similar data modeling tool.Who you are:• Enthusiastic about learning new techniques, strong analytical and problem-solving skill• Good judgment, prompt decision-making ability, responsibility, and accountability• Commitment to team work as both a contributor and a leader• Excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsWhat we offer:• In addition to an outstanding work environment with rapid advancement potential, Gartner associates enjoy exceptional compensation and benefits, including:• An upbeat, positive culture.
