Senior Backend Engineer

to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining software applications that meet our team's and clients' needs. The candidate must have a strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and the ability to understand complex software systems. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex problems, has excellent communication skills, team building experience, and thrives in a fast-paced setting that is constantly evolving. As a valuable addition to our dynamic team, you will collaborate closely with our VP of Engineering, along with a talented group of frontend and backend engineers, and dedicated product managers. Our cutting-edge frontend SPA relies on a multitude of RESTful endpoints, offering a seamless user experience.In this pivotal role, you will play a crucial part in developing groundbreaking solutions for medical researchers while also contributing to the strategic direction and objectives of our product. We seek a candidate who can autonomously discern priorities among various features, tasks, and optimizations, ensuring optimal outcomes for our users and stakeholders.Our Stack:

Frontend: ReactJS, Material-UI, JSS, Webpack, GatsbyJSBackend: Python 3.8, Django (RESTful APIs), TensorFlow, PostgreSQLDevOps: Docker, Ansible, CircleCIGitHub, GCP, Netlify, CloudFlareWe try to keep most of our stack on the latest stable releases to minimize technical debt.Responsibilities:

Write scalable, testable, and maintainable code for the frontend and backend (mostly backend)Work closely with customers and internal team to strategically prioritize features on the product roadmapMake critical architectural decisions. Research new technologies and understand complexity tradeoffsBuild features for LIMS - our internal laboratory information system (powered by Django).Build robust data pipelines to feed into machine learning algorithmsProvide technical support to the internal teamHandle automated deployments and maintenance for web servers.Requirements5+ years of experience in Django / Python.Front end experience with React is ideal, but not necessary. Having worked with SPAs is a plus, though.Experience with Google Cloud Platform or comparable cloud provider.Experience in full-stack web development, including front-end and back-end developmentDemonstrated leadership or capability to see projects through completionEffective technical communication skills to both technical and non-technical stakeholdersLiving in or willing to relocate to NYC to work in personA plus:
