A community services organization in New York City is currently seeking a new Counselor (CASAC) for a promising opportunity with their growing team. In this role, the Counselor will be responsible for providing consumer-oriented therapy to assist patients in achieving self-sufficiency and positive treatment outcomes by combining traditional psychotherapy with a practical, problem-solving approach that creates a dynamic and efficient path for change and problem resolution.

The Counselor (CASAC) will:

Provide assistance to patients in achieving self-sufficiency and positive treatment outcomesHelp patients identify goals and solutions to problems causing emotional problems and the use of psychotherapy to address mental disorders and substance abuseAssist patients to develop skills and strategies to address their issuesAssess patient's needs and develop a treatment plan with the patient that assists in working towards achieving the patient's goalsDemonstrate a concern for the short-term and long-term well-being of individuals, couples, families, groups, and organizationsEngage in program development, advocacy, research, and program evaluation to improve mental health treatment and prevention servicesMaintain caseload, provide individual and group treatment utilizing evidence-based practice focused on daily living skills, harm reduction, anger management, parenting skills, assertiveness, health issues, mental health issues, pre-vocational and employment issuesComplete all required paperwork in a timely mannerPerform other tasks and special projects as assigned by the direct supervisorQualifications:

2+ years of relevant work experienceCASACGood knowledge of the client, their language, types of abuse, and social- economic influencesGood knowledge of modern therapeutic methods, theories and practicesWorking knowledge of the system of social service that provides services to those with substance use disorder, including treatment programs, therapeutic centers, and employment/educational opportunitiesWorking knowledge of concrete services available and commonly used by clientsDesired Skills:
