Starting Pay: $75,000 - $93,750

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Houston Food Bank is looking for an experienced Data Engineer with an agile mindset. This position will contribute to the design, implementation, and maintainability of our cloud-based data processing infrastructure. The Data Engineer will help support a team that is improving the lives of people, every single day.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Designs, builds, and maintains large-scale production data infrastructure.Works on systems critical to Houston Food Bank's (HFB's) current and future operations.Debugs production issues across services and multiple levels of the stacks.Creates and maintains technical documentation.Improves engineering standards, tooling, and processes.Develops API integrations and troubleshoots reporting database environments and reports.Supports the data warehouse in identifying and revising reporting requirements.Provides technical expertise on data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing for peers.Assesses tests, implements new or upgraded software, and assists with strategic decisions on new systems.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or a closely related field required1+ years of experience writing and optimizing SQL queries, working with relational databases, and understanding database concepts1+ years of experience with data manipulation, analysis, and scripting using Python or R1+ years of experience using Git for version control, managing code repositories, and collaborating with other team members1+ years of RESTful APIs, experience with making API requests, and parsing JSON or XML responses2+ years of experience with creating structure models2+ years of experience in any AWS service or equivalent Cloud-based data warehouses or Data pipeline servicesExperience with AWS services and concepts, such as S3, EC2, or Redshift preferred but not requiredExperience with DBT for data transformation and modeling within a data warehouse environment preferred but not requiredExposure to BI tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker, with experience in creating visualizations, dashboards, and reports preferred but not requiredCertificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The employee will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse. The employee must frequently travel to other sites for business.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While the job is generally performed in an enclosed office environment, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the office environment is typically quiet, but the employee will be occasionally exposed to loud noise levels (e.g., horns, fans).

This role supports hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities, as necessary, and may require flexibility (e.g., times of disaster, community events, company events).
