SUMMARY

Juvenile Justice Specialist provides structured supervision, assessments, counseling and service linkage to court-involved youth during the hours when juvenile crime is most likely to occur; by providing positive group settings, building life skills, and supporting peer interaction. This supports the main goal to divert youth from future involvement in the juvenile justice system while reducing recidivism.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Execute routes as assigned by team leader in either an agency vehicle or one's personal vehicle.This may include preparing the agency vehicles for daily use (I.e. putting the keys in the vehicles.)Assist in the planning of cultural, educational and/or social outings on a regular basis.Implement the curriculum as designated by the schedule. Facilitating/co-facilitating group discussions.Report any deviation of activities to your supervisor immediately (within 24 hours).Address individual youth and group behaviors using motivational interviewing and de-escalation skills.Build and maintain healthy relationship with the youth.Provide information to the team leader relevant to any unaddressed, perceived client needs as part of on-going assessment of referred youth.Provides and fosters excellent service to clients.Ensure safety and well-being of clients during all programming hours.Assume duties including but not limited to driving and maintaining vans, transporting clients to and from program sites, transporting food to program sites, and assisting in facilitating groups.Manage conflict and crisis that occur during program hours.Enter client information into Casey Life Skill tracking system within 72 hours of intake.Collaborate and network with law enforcement, probation, employers, family members, schools, health providers and any other providers involved in the client's service planning.Create and maintain individual case plan for all youth involved in program.Prepare clear, concise, well written documents (i.e. case notes) and incident reports to depict a clear image of client behaviors and other program related incidents.Ensure programming is implemented within the designated hours.Prepare and submit all paperwork accurately and within the prescribed timeline.Complete all Core Curriculum training(s) required for this position. Complete on-going training as designated by program requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEHigh School diploma or GED and one to two years' experience working with at-risk youth. Bachelor's degree (BA/BS/BSW) preferred.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONSWill be required to have a reliable vehicle to transport clients and maintain a clean driving record. Must be able to accept and incorporate constructive feedback.Strong desire to work with youth.Excellent writing and communication skills.Experience working with aggressive youth is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSValid driver's license with a clear driving record.Documentation verifying current automobile insurance.
