Transportation Material Handler

The purpose of this position is to move, stack and sort boat trailers for shipment by following preestablished guidelines, processes, and safety protocols. Persons within this position cover various stations and work as part of a team to ensure production is constantly flowing.

Essential Functions1. Follow stacking, moving and storage processes to ensure that trailers are securely strapped and will not move, tip, or slide during shipment.2. Operate and position overhead cranes manually or mechanically to load trailers to transport vehicles (e.g., 18-wheelers, parcels, hot shots).3. Apply steel banding, straps, saran wrap and tape to secure trailers, parts, and accessories.4. Work as part of a team by communicating and working closely with teammates.5. Inspect loads to ensure proper banding, stacking and storage.6. Drive a tractor in order to safely move trailers to and from various lots and locations7. Stay ahead of production to prevent departmental downtime (e.g., ensure crane bays have trailers ready for upcoming stacks, clear repaired trailers from porch).8. Hook tractors to trailer hitches and fasten attachments (e.g., winch cables, hitch pins).9. Operate hand tools, banding tools, staple guns, razor knives, drills, hammers, and nail guns.10. Use hand tools to build transport blocks and cover with carpet.11. Install parts or attachments in transportation or material handling equipment.12. Remove wheels or put them back on before or after loading.13. Operate hand scanner to keep inventory of trailers and their lot locations.14. Communicate with drivers to ensure proper loads are picked up and strapped on for transport.15. Ensure all actions are in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.16. Complete other duties and cross-training activities as assigned.

Additional Duties1. Work daily overtime, when required, to complete the day's scheduled assignments.2. Cross-train in other departments to be able to assist where and when needed.

Qualifications? High school diploma or equivalent required? Six (6) months transportation experience preferred Specialized Knowledge? Knowledge, recognition and use of hand and power tools? Familiarity with operating vehicles and mechanical devices or equipment (e.g., forklifts, trailers)? Ability to complete assignments with attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy? Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and as part of a team? Willingness to help where and when needed, beyond the scope of normal day-to-day duties? Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to read and interpret written instructions

Physical Requirements? Ability to quickly move your hands, arms, or fingers to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects? Ability to climb over, under and around transport vehicles and trailers? Prolonged periods of standing, kneeling, bending, and squatting? Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Occupational Conditions? Manufacturing facility - must comply with all safety regulations and PPE requirements (e.g., gloves, face shields, steel toe shoes, safety glasses)? Exposure to various weather conditions (e.g., rain, wind, snow)? Exposure to hot and cold temps for long periods of time
