The Oracle Database Administrator ensures the core system Oracle databases are available in a 24x7x365 environment for day-to-day operations, as well as provides database reporting, expertise on query optimization, expertise on database performance tuning, backup and restore, disaster recovery, and environmental refreshes .
Essential Functions:
Provides technical guidance on query optimization and best practices to engineering teams and other departments
Improve operational efficiencies of database schema, settings, SQL queries, backup/recovery processes, change data capture and disaster recovery procedures
Data Retention
Monitors the core production system services for proper disk and CPU utilization, and proper day to day operations of internal applications, maintaining up time
Research new products and upgrades that maximize the efficiency and scalability of the database system
Documents and improves existing departmental procedures, policies, and workflows
Storage Management
Closely monitors and manages security related aspects of the Oracle databases to follow contemporary industry best practices
Database Monitoring/Alerts
Maintains development, test, and UAT database systems and provide data maintenance services and refresh as necessary
Documents database design, integration processes, and disaster recovery processes
Performance tuning and optimization as required
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology, related technical degree or commensurate experience
6+ years experience as Oracle Database Administrator in a high transaction environment
4+ years experience with Postgres Databases
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organizational skills, with ability to work well under deadline pressure and to successfully meet those deadlines, and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Solid understanding of relational database management systems, SQL queries, and table schema design; working knowledge of PL/SQL, Linux, and Java
Understanding of networking, firewalls, security procedures, and audit requirements in relation to database systems
Experience with performance tuning, partition, database design, data warehouse, and encryption
Working knowledge of storage in relation to database
Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team
