The global Information Technology (IT) Function is leading efforts to align IT and Business Strategy, leverage IT investments, and optimize end to end business processes and associated information integration technologies. Through these efforts, IT helps to improve the competitive position of Corning's businesses through IT enabled processes. IT also delivers Information Technology applications, infrastructure, and project services in a cost efficient manner to Corning worldwide.

SCOPE/PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Leverage technical acumen to provide superior Engineering and production support for Oracle Database environments. In addition, will drive and participate in efforts to ensure platform stability to maximize performance of database environments. Partner with application owners/teams to understand application and business needs and SLO.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary focus will be on production support for database environments working with 24X7 support staffDatabase administration (Installation, configuration and management, patching and upgrade of the database environments)Perform Database backup and recoveryPerform Database refreshDatabase/SQL Monitoring and Performance TuningUsing database expertise and leadership experience to identify and drive improvement efforts related to our database portfolioParticipate in Change Advisory Board and provide guidance governance on Database changes. Performing problem resolution for complex issues including root cause analysis, and outlining resolution optionsProviding off-hours support, when required, for critical production issues.Automate Infrastructure components leveraging understanding of scripting, coding and automation using one or more of the following: PowerShell, Microsoft DSC, Chef, Puppet, Ruby, Terraform, OEM or others.Maintains technical knowledge on current and emerging Multi-Cloud developments, industry trends, assesses the opportunity, and collaborates with stakeholders to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future strategiesWork with the third-party support team (on-shore and off-shore) and application support teams to educate and guide them for steady-state supporting database infrastructure related technologiesPromotes and self-demonstrates Corning's principles of Performance, Leadership, Innovation, Independence, the Individual, Quality, and Integrity

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

BS degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work experience

WORK EXPERIENCE:

2-5 years working in IT as Oracle Database Administrator

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Played pivotal roles as Database Administrator and support staff across various database technologiesKnowledgeable in database technologies - Oracle RAC, Grid Infrastructure, Oracle Enterprise Manager, Linux scripting etc.Database/SQL Monitoring and Performance TuningExperience with Linux and Windows OSManufacturing Industry (or similar) experience to understand the data security requirements like ITAR/PCI/PHI/HIPPA/NIST/SOX etc.

DESIRED SKILLS:

Effective leadership, organization, and planning skills, with ability to handle changing prioritiesExcellent communications, interpersonal and influencing skillsDemonstrated track record of on time delivery within budget; ability to drive projects to successful conclusion using influencing toolsAbility to lead international teams across multiple initiatives that span various lines of business, geographic borders, time zones, and culturesExperience with SAP/PeopleSoft is a plus

LOCATION & TRAVEL:

The position can be based in Charlotte, NC (Hybrid) or Corning, NY (Hybrid)No Travel required

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $74,486.00 - $102,418.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
