Position Summary:
The Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of our databases and contribute to these aspects of our data warehouse and data lake environments. The DBA will also be involved in the planning, design, development, and integration of these databases into our overall data ecosystem, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users. This role requires a strong understanding of database and data warehouse structures, theories, principles, languages, and practices with a solid understanding of how these constructs interact with data lakes and data lakehouses.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Database
Design and Architecture:
Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of SQL,
structured, and unstructured data within the HSP technology stack –
currently Azure – ensuring robust architecture, scalability, and high
availability.Database/Data
Warehouse Management:
Install, configure, and maintain database systems including SQL
Server, Azure SQL, Synapse, and file-based semi-structured data formats.Performance
Tuning and Optimization:
Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring
high levels of data availability, integrity, and security.Consolidation
and Integration:
Merge and consolidate databasesBackup
and Recovery:
Implement
and manage database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.Security:
Ensure database
security, including user roles, access controls, and encryption.Troubleshooting:
Diagnose and
resolve database access and performance issues.Maintenance:
Perform regular
database maintenance tasks such as tuning, patching, and upgrades.Documentation:
Develop,
manage, and test database recovery plans and procedures. Maintain
documentation of database configurations, processes, and service records.Support:
Provide
technical support and guidance to users, developers, and other IT staff.Collaboration:
Work closely
with the development team to optimize database design and support
application development.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science,
Information Technology, or related field.Minimum
of 5 years of experience as a Database Administrator.Proficiency
with Microsoft SQL Server, Azure SQL, and Azure Synapse.Strong
understanding of database management systems, OLAP (online analytical
processing), ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) framework, and a proven track
record of working with large datasets are a must.Knowledge of database languages like SQL, R, and Python.Experience with database software/web applications.Strong
problem solving and analytical skillsExcellent
verbal and communication skills.
Highly Preferred Qualifications:
Solid understanding of data lake and data lakehouse architecture.Firm understanding of analytics, business intelligence, and data visualization tools.Knowledge of the RedPoint Data Management Platform is a differentiator.Solid understanding of the Azure Cloud Platform; Azure data, development, and/or infrastructure certifications are a bonus.
The ideal candidate will have excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff.
This is a full-time on-site role located in Ashburn, VA.
